Well, I understand he just did a 3 state sweep. So, it certainly is possible. As to probable, I have no idea.

he can now say he won 4 out of eight primaries, cash is starting to come in and he doesn't have the baggage newt has so if romney goes after him like he did to newt or  others  he will look bad.

I sure hope so. He'd even be easier to beat than Newt!

Santorum is the least electable one in the group.

Speaking as a Democrat, I hope Santorum wins the nomination. He'd be toast in the general.

he would be easier to beat than romney, but in the end it comes down to the economy

Probably. Maybe. I don't think anyone but the GOP base would elect a complete moron like Santorum or Gingrich, no matter how bad the economy is.

well you can't analyze politics according to your ideology you have to consider the viewpoint of your opponents , I'm to the left of obama but this is not a leftist country it's a center-right country so for the left to triumph politically concessions have to be made,so when it comes to the election if the democratic president can't demonstrate the country is better economically than when he took office he will lose, believe me if unemployment is at ten percent when the elections take place any of the four republican clowns would win.

I know that's the conventional wisdom. I'm very realistic, and don't project my personal projections to electoral predictions. I did not like Bush, and knew he would win in 2004.

In many ways, we won't know what will happen until November. 10 months is a LONG time when it comes to the campaign. I just have a tough time imagine a luddite like Santorum, or an obvious shill like Gingrich, winning over anyone outside the "anyone but Obama" crowd.

you're right about that, this is definitely a weak republican field ,that's why i want obama to take advantage of that to secure his reelection moreover, if the republicans don't win this election every election cycle will become harder for them because of the way they have liquidated the big tent party by expelling all moderates and alienating whole sectors of the population

another thing that concerns me is the fact that if we blow this election we would be giving up the chance to nominate one or more supreme court justices.

I agree with you. I personally think Obama could beat any of them, so I hope they nominate a Gingrich or Santorum, have him get clobbered, and come to their senses about the stupidity of nominating someone that only their base likes. There are tons of TPers who think McCain was too moderate, and they still have a lot of sway in the GOP.

It'd be nice to have a sane opposition party in this country.

You'd need more sane people first..

The only path I can see to a Santorum nomination is mass insanity from the mere forty to sixty percent of Americans that bother to vote.

While any of the GOP candidates would be better than Obama, Rick Santorum has the clear path to the nomination.  Obama peaked in 2009 and has been sliding ever since.  He's a lame duck waiting to utter his last quack battling the do nothing Congress.  Obama has renedered himself irrelevant with his bickering, petty style.

Rick Santorum is winning the meat and potatoe states while Romney can only manage victories in the moderate to liberal elistist states.  With super Tuesday appraoching I can't a scenerio in which Mitt can win enough delegates to take the nomination.  Let's be honest and serious for a moment, put aside your disdain for all things Republican, do you really see Romney winning in Texas and the real South?(Florida is not the South).

I really despise the republican party of today, but there's definitely a path to a Santorum nomination, and in the general election it will come down to the economy, it's simple if the economy continues to improve however slowly obama will be reelected, if the economy gets worse, whoever is the republican candidate will win.
