I am writing a technical hub and wish to show several different examples. If the stated goal is 1500 words, is 2100 words too many?

It depends on the words and how they are put together. I agree with those who say to break them up with capsules of photos or quizzes or polls or whatever it takes to let the reader get some rest between long text passages.

I've found if I'm interested in what I'm reading, I don't care how long it is. If I'm not interested, I will quit after a few paragraphs or just skim to the end. How much I read also depends upon my purpose. If I'm looking for something to read on a work break, I won't want to read something long. If it looks full of information I might want to read when I have a block of time, I bookmark it to come back to.

If I'm looking for information, I don't mind reading lots of interesting and informative words that are put together well. But if something is long and written poorly, I will quit after the first paragraph.

I'd say 2000 is about the limit.  If you can split it in two and interlink them, you'll get more benefit from your work.

Personally I find even 1500 words a bit long if I'm reading.  If it's all one big chunk of text, it's indigestible, and if you make it interesting with photos or diagrams, you have to scroll down a heck of a long way!

No, that's fine, especially in an in-depth hub.

Just make sure you break it up with some pictures and subtitles.

No point having a 2,000 word article if most people only read the first 400 words.

There are many hubs with more than two thousand words for sure.. if you are confident that you can hold your readers interest there is no stopping you.
The average reader on the internet does have a short attention span. Why not think of having a hub with two parts?

I would split into 2 of about 1000 each with links from one to the other with a variation in the title to catch more readers for that subject.. If you can...

I tend to write around fairly broad subjects that allow me to write 8-15 hubs that are all interlinked each with 800 -1500 words.. that seems to work for me..

2,000 words works well for me, but I find that I need to split it into several "mini" modules throughout the hub.  For example, create a text box as a call out from the main article to talk about one specific aspect that complements the main article.

That technique seems to work well for my types of articles.

Thank you all for your assistance. Here goes my longest hub to date. I hope my readers won't find it redundant but I felt multiple examples were needed.

Funny thing, when I don't have to research and document - I find my hubs to be much shorter and easier. Uncertain IF I will try this technical field again but I wanted to give it a shot.

Thank you all for your sharing your expertise!
