The controversey over the Obama mandate, that the Catholic church should provide contraception and sterilization to their employees in the insurance policy. is a bogus argument. The Church has 2000 years of teaching and doctrine that says the prevention of life ,or the taking of a life after the egg is fertilized is a sin. They, and the rest of the population have a constitutional right to practice their religion as they choose The first amendment states " Congress shall make no law respecting an establisment of religion,This means that a religion for the whole country to follow can not be implemented, or prohibiting the free excercise there of. wich means that we are free to follow whatever religion we choose , without any government intrusion, or abridging the freedom of speech,or of the press ,or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. The latter part meaning that we can believe what we believe ,free of fear, and speak what we believe free of repercussion from the government, and we can protest the government's actions in regard to our freedoms of religion, and speech. The contraception ruse is just that, a ploy to intrude, on the first amendment, as is the whole Obama care mandate. Once they have control of your health, you are no longer free!
The church has a right to their beliefs. They DO NOT have the right to force them on me!~
If they are in a public space, working in a public domain....employing the public: their religion takes a back seat.
I am a citizen before you are a religion.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you: The failure of liberals to understand the difference between public and private ONLY when it suits their biases!
Nope...sorry!
I was born first...religion is put on you. There is no debate.
My grandmother worked to become a nun, but then became a nurse in a catholic hospital.
I'm an Atheist, as are both my parents.
Please stop giving me such easy arguments to shut down.
What???
Life comes before religion. Stop acting like religion trumps life.
Your quote:
"religion is put on you"
My answer:
"No, it isn't."
Your response:
I have no idea what you're saying, actually.
You are not BORN Catholic, or Jewish or Christian, or Muslim....you are born a clean slate.
Religion is learned. From your environment.
What are you saying?
I don't see how a church-run organization is "forcing" their views on you by not giving you free stuff.
Kosher delis won't sell me ham! They're forcing me to be Jewish!
THEY are not giving free anything. Since they have such predjudicial views on women, they are allowed to skip on paying their part on Insurance-provided contraceptives. They must offer it, but women themselves must pay for the coverage.
On the other hand, viagra is paid in full by the Catholic church insurance plan.
Healthcare on an insurance plan is miles away from a business selling food.
The Church is not predjuditial toward women. The tenants of the church teach that prevention of a life created by God is a sin and also a killing of a life through abortion is also a sin. that is 2000years of church teaching. This is not about contraception at all,or who pays for it IT IS ABOUT THE FIRST AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION, AND THE INTRUSION OF THE SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT ON OUR FREE SPEECH AND FREEDOM OF RELIGION. Those of you who can't see that or don't care about it, is a shame.. You will wake up one day in a socialist, communist country and wonder how the heck it happened. WAKE UP !!!
OK..so why does that have to apply to employees who are not Catholic?
Just because the Church teaches that it is a sin and will not be party to promoting or encouraging sin.
They're not...they do not have to pay anything for it....their hands are clean.
If they want to make money in the public domain, they do not get to force their religion on those who don't believe.
Do you honestly think that the insurance companies are going to give contraceptives away free? nothing is free . Somebody always has to pay. The church will be paying the premiums for the insurance and it will be included in those premiums. Im'sure you are aware of that. In what instance are they making money in the public domain, being forced to provide contraception that they don't believe in. Can't you see that this is a first amendment violation of the Constitution, that has served our nation for the last 250 years to protect our God given rights, Life, LIBERTY, and the persuit of happiness. I"m sure you must understand that.
No I don't. They have their freedom in church, where it belongs. They don't have it in schools or hospitals where they are employing people from all walks of life and all walks of beliefs.
I personally don't believe that pills should be used to activate a sex life...if God says you're done...you're done.
Why then, do I have to pay for insurance which covers viagra along-side my contraceptives?
Or are you saying that organized religion is more important than my own personal beliefs?
In which case, I'd have to wonder about MY 1st amendment rights!
They have every right in CATHOLIC SCHOOLS and CATHOLIC HOSPITALS AND ANY OTHER CATHOLIC INSTITUTION. They do not have any rights in public hospitals or or even other places run by any other religion. I don't think any form of contraception or things like Viagra should be covered in any insurance policy. these things have nothing to do with health. It does not matter who uses them ,they are a choice , not a necessity in most cases. People can get free contraceptives at planned parenthood any time they want them or pay nine dollars a month at Walmart Think a minute ! This has to do with the government taking away YOUR FREEDOM in incremental ways. We have already lost some of our free speech rights, they are telling us what we shouldn't eat for goodness sake, There are more regulations in the U S A than you can shake a stick at. A Kid cant't even sell lemonade in front of his house untill he gets a 200 dollar permit. Don't let them bamboozle you any longer. WAKE UP before it's to late. We will be looking like Venezualia before you know it!!
Planned parenthood is gone...thanks to the GOP. Thanks to religion.
And that's my point: My freedom from YOUR religion is what's at stake.
Your institutions are run tax-free. All those women who pay taxes, and work there, are paying for their own discrimination... for that is what I consider it to be.
Because you may practice your religion anywhere you go..no one forces you to take contaceptives, or to have an abortion.
But you are trying to take those choices away from me.
many religion has death penalty for adultery...we cant have that in name of freedom of religion , in same lines family planning is not domain of religion....we cant be dictated by 2k yr old people who wrote whatever they wrote seeing their own environment...
The Church, does not have a death penalty for adultry.. This is not about family planning, or contraception, or who pays for it. It is about the Government trying to destroy YOUR RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH, AND THE FREEDOM TO PRACTICE WHAT EVER RELIGION YOU BELIEVE IN , OR NOT BELIEVE IF YOU CHOOSE . Did you ever hear the addage " They came for the Jews, but I was not a jew, so I said nothing. Then they came for me." That was about the Nazis killing the Jews. If you let them destroy the first amendment, Your children and their children will not be free.

Which is more important, freedom of faith or freedom of speech? Many religious folks are decent, good people. Some of my best friends subscribe to institutionalised superstition - and are good humored enough to let me say that without taking offense. But most religions per se enshrine some deeply...

I don't know anyone in America that doesn't support the freedom of religion. Why do you ask?

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/21/us/re … odayspaperWhy is this still allowed? If the Catholic Church ever had a doctrine that said African Americans, Asian Americans, or Hispanic Americans could not be priests, they would've been banned from discriminating. However, the United States...

I am not in favor of restricting freedom of religion, but it bothers me greatly that some extremely religious groups actively teach hatred.I suppose we have to put up with it, but why is there so much fear to show outrage at least? When someone says that homosexuals or atheists or Catholics...
