Job hunting really stinks. I search and apply everywhere and get nowhere. I have to look for an entry level job, but get turned down because of lack of experience. How does that even make sense? I need experience to get any entry level job but no one will give me a chance to get that experience. It is a constant conundrum.

The best type of places you can apply for a first job is either fast food or retail. They have high turn over rates, so your chances of getting hired increase.

Although your situation may sound like a Catch-22, it's not.

Volunteer work or an internship will get you the needed experience for whatever field your trying to get a job in. This will also help you gain contacts in the field -- many of which might provide leads for jobs.

Perhaps the best 'Entry Level' that you can start with is to start selling yourself instead of asking if anyone wants you at discount rates!  I'm sure right now if you have taken that statement for less than what it is worth... then you are feeling defensive in regards to my approach!

However, You state that you want to be an Interior Designer and you are studying Graphic Art. If so then, Only YOU are holding you back! You NEED to be a CREATIVE Graphic Artist.  Creativity IS YOUR Entry Level! What in this world of the Web requires Really Creative Graphic Artists I wonder?

Sell Yourself.. and the reasons Why the world CAN'T do without you... not why YOU CAN'T Get what you feel you need from the world!  Do it Creatively... Like I have demonstrated to you in this post... if you believe in you more creatively! smile

    Bon Chance!

Don't rely on public job boards / online application alone. Some 50% of vacancies are not advertised.

For entry level, internship and volunteering are some of the traditional routes you can take but you can definitely be more creative than that.

At this time and age, networking can go a long way. A lot of companies save on recruiting costs by taking in new hires through referrals. So go out and meet / mingle, join some local business chambers or design meetups.

Check out real estate too as those houses for demo need interior designing or what they would call "staging".

Go find some jobs in related industry/market like a furniture/decor store or etc where you could give your valuable advice / design tips to people you meet and kind of expand your network / indirectly sell your skills. You never you who you will meet.

My friend and I was at a restaurant few weeks ago and was chatting with the lady who served us and she turned out to be like you too - fresh, interior designer and guess what, she ended up getting a few business cards and contacts from my friend.

The first job you take may not be ideal but it can lead to something if you believe in your skills.
