How to die with dignity and without fear.

If one is to accept death and the entirety of what such a concept portends, is to add longevity to one's life. In denying death, we have made it an unnatural phenomenon, as if it were an outside force and not just a cycle of nature. Dignity is a word and we can all die on a toilet, so then there is no such thing, only moderate shades of dignity.

So then... Why are people so easily lead into believing otherwise?

Thanks for this very deep insight.

I suggest it comes from the instinctive, animal-based response for survival. It's built into our genes.  We try to look at it from the sophisticated human angle, respond with a little guilt, which we have all been instilled with, (?religious), and conjure up some imagination of what Hell will be like.  Encourage such an imagination/belief structure in those around you; exploit and manipulate the fear;  Hey, Presto!  You have control like you never believed was possible!!  It obviously cannot prevent death, but in the meantime you can do your own thing.

It better to teach a man how not to die rather than to die with dignity...

But then it belongs to whom it belongs and these would need no teacher except him thats within...

No one can teach another how not to die, only live... Teaching another to fear or long for uncertain futures, is to blind that person to what is happening now. As I said to a witness earlier.. "Christianity and that of the like, are the peddlings of madness, one wouls have to be nuts to take it literaly". Any parent that does not naturaly instill a love of life and instead indoctrinates the child or friend or whatever, is not a person that loves said examples. It becomes more about punishment rewards and not being a naturaly good person for no reason.

Why would I want to die believing I'd be heading for anything more than a release from my own sufferings? There's no dignity in that, none that I can see anyway.

One man fears death and dies, another claims does not fear and he too dies.

What the difference? only the ships but same abyss...

What then is in the boast of having a better ship?

A man lives only by triumph over death...

    Ok, Kess, I hear that.

Consider that if a person has spent as much energy and love as possible, living this life to the full and wasting as little as possible, then she/he can face the possibility of departing this life without any fear at all.  Still a small wish to accomplish more, perhaps, but otherwise content.

The one who fears death most is the one who has the most to lose by death.  Or the one who has been indoctrinated with ideas of what horrors to expect on the "other side,"  .....  need I say more?

      Nothing, that was gold...

In fearing something beyond life, would that not be putting life aside? People are so wrapped up in what jow shmoe is doing or thinking, that they are rarely paying attention to the prize and it was a gimme from the beginning. So why is it so important to gloom and doom? Are we that easily distracted in life?

I hear you too Johnny....but I must persist to inspire men to see beyond the status quo of,
      'I shall die'...acceptance... unto

'I shall die only if and when I decide'.....Triumph.

But unless a man allow his paradigm to shift to allow him to see this as a possibility, there is no way he can attain such a reality.

But still bearing in mind that these belong only to whom they belong....

There is no decision, life begins and ends regardless of choice.

I've worked in hospice care. Some people accept it calmly. Some are terrified. Some just want the pain to stop.

I know I'd like to go out with dignity and acceptance, but like the rest of life there are factors at work outside of our control.

So, can we come to the conclusion that it's more about how we use the Life, while we have it, rather than worrying about the end of it?
