Help, I have tried to start two new hubs...both of which are not working because it says the web address is already taken. I tried logging in and out...and it's still not working!
It means somebody else has already used that URL - try changing it slightly.
But shouldn't it not matter because I tried several different titles and they were all taken? Is that really plausible? Plus, the link has our names at the front of the link (i.e. http://juliedeneen.hubpages.....etc) making it unique. If I add a number to the end of the link, it'll accept it so that is a workaround, but the first time I tried to make a new hub (about veggies and kids), Hubpages froze. Since then, it doesn't like any title I put in unless I add a random numeral at the end.
Hi Julie!
In answer, yes, it does matter and is quite plausible.
There are over one (1) million published articles, so far. That is a lot of Titles & Links as Title. Best thing is to run a search for the title and see what comes back. Sometimes identical links or variations of the link -title exact- can already be in use. You can always alter the Internal Title, using the Title Tuner, but the link has to be unique.
Happy Hubbing,
James.
@James- thanks for the clarification. I figured it didn't matter because every hub starts with the person's name, but I will keep that in mind and see if I can't get it to work without adding the numeral at the end. Since I'm working on a hub with a title and then random number, will that mess up Google's searching of my hub, or does it look at the title mainly? Thanks again.
Yes, Bing, Google and Yahoo SEO Guidelines, as confirmed by HubPages, do not recommend using numerals in the title (i.e. Part 1, Part 2 or Part II). The spider assumes it is a duplicate title or article spin tactic. Right, it looks at the Link, Title, Summary/Description then tags/keywords, taxonomy (category, subcategories) and such.
Any time.
James
So much I am learning...I'll go ahead and create another hub and see if my titling works after searching for a pre-existing link. Thanks so much for explaining all this to me!
Are you sure this isn't a bug? Not allowing http://yourname.hubpages.com/hub/testhub to coexist with http://myname.hubpages.com/hub/testhub doesn't seem to mesh with a company that now touts itself as a "hosting company" instead of a content farm. Just sayin'....
If you start up a site via Blogger or Wordpress.com, you can certainly have the same post titles and URLs because the URLs are differentiated by each subdomain.
@Irohner No, this is not a bug. We maintain unique URLs abstracted from the user subdomain name.
Jacharless was very helpful explaining this whole thing to me. It was just a lack of education on my part. I went ahead and created a new hub and didn't have any trouble with my title. I simply was creating titles that had already been used before. It was the first time it ever happened to me so I was stumped.

Since we moved to subdomains, is there a thought to look at the "That Title is Already Taken" warning that comes up when creating a new hub? If the title is unique to my subdomain, shouldn't it be allowed to be published?I can see where this was an issue prior to the advent of subdomains,...

Can someone please explain this to me, as this hub was on HubPages for YEARS and saw a ton of traffic, but then I took it down... and only recently decided to bring it back, because I remember how helpful it was and how well it performed. The hub's purpose is to prove if Bodybuilding is really the...

I had six hubs showing broken links yesterday. I corrected all of them, but two are still showing the broken link icon. And, the edit date hasn't updated. Anyone else seeing this?
