Maybe that is what Fast & Furious was really all about. Perhaps the obvious connection between mass killings with the use of American firearms both in Mexico and the USA is what the strategy of the ATF and the Justice Department in Arizona (Brewer's state)was becoming to realize after-all. Perhaps that is why the NRA pulled out its forces to prevent legislation and steps by AFT to prevent sales into Mexico by USA gun dealers. NRA knows that USA assault rifles are weapons of choice by the Mexican drug cartels.
Just as they know these same assault rifles will be used by mass murderers here in the USA to kill innocent people...simply going out to watch a movie.
Gun Control...no politician will touch it, except the truly brave and bold among those who are willing to take on the NRA. The effort will be formidable, likely to end a political career, but nevertheless the RIGHT THING TO DO!
While the killings continue in both countries, unabated, we will have to be more cautious and more alert when we go out to get popcorn before the movie starts.
Based on some of the comments I've read here it would appear there are those who feel that law-abiding people should be strapped with AK-47s, Glocks, bayonets, Kevlar vests, Magnum pistol when buying popcorn. If someone needs to go to the restroom, sitting on the toilet seat they should have their firearm cock and at the ready. What a wonderful society we have created.
When it comes to guns, there are idealists, and there are people concerned with reality.
The reality is, there is no way for the US to prevent people who want to get a gun from getting a gun. No law, no ban, nothing the government does will keep guns out of the hands of criminals. They will always be able to find a gun, buy a gun through illegal channels, or make one.
Any attempt to disarm law abiding civilians will only result in more violence. If you pay attention, you will notice that most killing sprees occur in gun-free zones. Why? Because predators like weak prey, they don't like armed prey.
The problem is, the killing spree stories are perpetuated nationally, and leave an imprint in memory. The stories where people save themselves or others with guns aren't picked up nationally, don't spark as much debate, and aren't as memorable. The truth is, millions of crimes are stopped by civilians with guns. The net effect is positive.
What I am getting stronger your comments is that we can create violent and destructive societies but we can do absolutely nothing to fix the problem.
With all the death, destruction, murder and killing etc. year after year generation after generation the only thing we have learned is to keep getting weapons and keep killing.
If the only societies that we can create are vigilante societies why bother to even form a society?
Just read (gotta find the source) an article that public support for gun control has gone way down.
So that is why politicians won't touch it.
Article said, "because the public doesn't want it."
As to WHY the public doesn't want it?

The NRA leadership (not most of NRA members) currently sees Gun Control as a stark Black and White issue. The NRA et al think that ANY step to keep guns out of the hands of those who shouldn't have them is ipso facto an attempt to keep guns out of the hands of ALL citizens; this is the...

Does gun control prevent crimes?

States who care about their citizens finally have a roadmap on how to hold the people who will sell a gun to just anybody to account. This is thanks to Texas and their oppressive, demeaning anti-choice law.California is passing a law, which Gov Newsom will sign, that allows "Californians...
