Would anyone happen to know if we are allowed to utilize URL redirect services to redirect our hubpage URLS to custom shorter domains. Like co.cc or co.nr? No linkback is required.

Would this violate any TOS? I've looked for information regarding this but have been unable to pull up anything related to Hubpages or Adsense.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks ever so much.

If you go into the stats on the hub, or share on twitter, you get a shortened URL for your hub.

        Thanks for the info smile
Assuming I wish to set my own URL through a free redirect service with no back links. Is this permitted?

I'm not looking to shorten each individual post but rather my direct profile URL to a custom one which I would hope to configure to my liking.

I believe your asking if you can setup a shortened URL that goes to your profile page, right? While I'm no expert on stuff like this common sense tells me there is no logical reason for HP to care, within reason, how you link to your hubs. Besides Incoming links are pretty much impossible for any website to control

I've been using a shortened URL through bit.ly to try and get users to register here under my account  for years now.

Well a URL redirect would be a URL provided by another service that links back to your page. So instead of username.hubpages.com you could set up a redirect so the user would browse to username.cr or username.co.cc and be taken to your hubpages. Pretty much exactly like bitly except much similar to a proper domain. That's what I want to set up. Some services make you have to display a linkback to use their forwarding service. While others don't.

Unless someone from HP staff responds here that your not allowed to do so I'd just go and do it. I can't imagine how they could have a problem with that or on what grounds.

There is on negative for you that I can think of though. If the URL service doesn't use a proper 301 redirect you will be missing out on any Google link juice that otherwise would be coming your way from those links. I really doubt there is much to worry about there since that's probably exactly how they do work, to redirect the URL from A to B via a 301.

Oh wow thanks for that very effective and informative reply I never even thought about the Google links coding part of it. Well the URL redirect service is www.dot.tk

Its basically a free URL provider that gives the user a chance to shorten their homepage to a chosen name plus .tk at the end. The reason I chose it was because it was the shortest link name that gave me the option to chose the domain myself. And on the plus side they don't require a linkback and you can sign in through Google or MSN or what have you. Thanks so much for the reply. Much appreciated.

Just to confirm I verified that it is indeed 301 redirection so all clear. Thanks again very much smile

I assumed the service you was talking about was a URL shortener, not a free domain name. Sorry I made us both into an ass. smile

Lets use your www.dot.tk as an example. I thought you meant do.tk/G4d65Ga redirects to... wherever. But no they give a free ccTLD, Country Code Top Level Domain, name as long as it's not a premium or very short name that you desire. As long as there are no hidden 'gotcha's' I'm not aware of that is a very nice service to use.

I like that they give you the option of using either the URL redirection via a 301 or using it at the DNS, Domain Name Service, level for web hosting purposes.

Only negative I can see is that you have to remember to renew it between 1 and 12 months which you have with any domain registration. So no big deal at all. Just don't forget the renewal or your links get broken. This minor issue is worth it in my opinion. Very nice service there that I'll probably use at some point in the future.

I most certainly recommend it to everyone looking for a domain. Because its very short. No link backs. .tk is very simple to remember, its almost just about a practically the same as having a .com domain. I was very impressed that it is absolutely free and can be signed into with a Google account. The 1 year registration is no issue because you can just renew it afterwards. So most certainly go ahead and give it a shot smile Enjoy smile
