Found this site which is chock full or political information. It includes a section that gives you direct email contact with any legislator in the US. Regardless of our political positions, we all need to use this site to let our leaders know when we are unhappy. Let's start by asking them to walk away from Grover Norquist and his pledge so their hands no longer will be tied during financial negotiations.
Yeah, and while you are at it, tell some legislator about fellow Hubber Sarra Garret, ex US servicewoman, "homeless at 50" (see Hub) and living in a tent in the snow in some National Park in the mighty USA. This is disgraceful. My country, Chile, is "third world" sort of, but Sarra's plight is really unconceivable to me. Please get to it, and happy emailing!
joanveronica: is this her hub or your hub? I'd like to read it.
She is on the forums, under the title "homeless," I was reading thru myself, awful situation....By the way, thanks for this link
joanveronica: I found the hub and will be watching it closely to see how things progress. I'd have to know a lot more about this woman and her situation before I'd blame the Government for her plight.
About Sarra, I don't think it's really the Government that's to blame, it is just a question of lots of little loopholes and empty spots in the general legislation, and individuals just fall through these gaps. The problem arises when no action is taken to solve the problem. We have similar problems here where I live, but as this is a smaller nation, we seem to get onto things more directly and make a noise about it. It doesn't always work, but then we are "third world." Sarra has been bombarded with suggestions by other Hubbers from the US and there's always been some legal difficulty, in the sense that she has already tried that particular suggestion, and has run into a block. The fact that she is an ex servicewoman is what really upsets me, don't they look after their own? It's a tough problem, I think.
You are correct, it is a tough problem. The homeless often get that way because they are either mentally ill, have some sort of addiction or have had some very bad luck. Sometimes they get that way as the result of extremely poor decision making throughout their lives and blame it on bad luck. The problem in this situation is that we don't know the whole story.
I don't know what you would mean by the whole story. I have read two Hubs, I have read all the comments, I have read Sarra's threads, and it has all seemed pretty clear to me. But then I am not a US citizen, maybe I don't understand all the details. Have a good day!

quebec has banned the kirpan from it's legislator, is this the right thing to do?there have been over a hundred injuries cause by the kirpan in the last 3 years in canada but the kirpan is claimed to be just a cerimonial dagger, does this make sense and is the ban justifiable?

I thought that this was a bygone concept from the time of squalid tenement houses and whale bone corsets. But let's go into the time machine, back to the late 19th century and revisit the world Republicans want to reintroduce us to..... I think about, back in the day when a kid can get into...

I'm new and excited to get going. I'll probably make a few mistakes, but I'm a fast learner. I'm going to spend tomorrow morning going over sample hubs, topics, answers, Hubbers, and forums. By tomorrow night, I'll be much better acquainted with rules and Hub etiquette. Here's a little something...
