Is There A Way To Confirm HubPages Domain Ownership For Bing Webmaster?  I know it can be done with Google Webmaster Tools, but when I tried to confirm that I "own" the domain Rock_nj at HubPages in For Bing Webmaster (to help assess my ranking at Bing and Yahoo), it had three options, all of which involved uploaded code or files to the Rock_nj subdomain at HubPages, which I can't do.  Is there a workaround for this?

Where you originally posted is not the thread for reporting bugs, but I've now moved it to the right place. Matt M can help you with the troubleshooting process from here- he's our go-to expert on collecting bug reports and filing them properly. smile

OK thanks.  This isn't so much a bug, as it is a limitation regarding how the subdomains are set up at HubPages.  I understand why these limitations are in place, as HP can't have users uploading code and files to their subdomains for security reasons.  I just need to know from Matt M if there is any workaround for this situation or if I should stop pursuing an account with Bing Webmaster?

          @Rock_nj
I just tried the process to add a site to Bing Webmaster Tools.
It appears that none of the three options will work with HubPages as you cannot upload content or alter the CNAME record.

Option 1: Place an XML file on your web server
Option 2: Copy and paste a <meta> tag in your default webpage
Option 3: Add CNAME record to DNS

Thanks for clearing this up for me.  I know others at HubPages are interested in knowing the answer to this also.

You can add your HubPages subdomain to Google Analytics.

If enough people are interested there may be something we can do to support Bing Webmaster.

I don't know how complicated it would be or if there are caveats that I have not considered, but you are more than welcome to suggest this or other features here:

I think you should look further into this. Bing is slowly catching up with Google, their results are already of higher quality than Google, just the relevancy isn't just as high right now, but they're working on that.

I am tracking it in Google Analytics.  I also want to track it in Bing Webmaster Tools.  But I will wait until you have enough demand for it to make it worthwhile.

There are tools available through Bing's Webmaster tool box that aren't available on Google's. I've been wanting this change as well. Thanks for considering it!

You don't legally own your domain at HubPages.

Adding a sub-domain to a webmaster system isn't a legality issue at all, we're given permission to use it, that is all that is required, nothing else.

I understand that, and that's why I put parentheses around "own".  Ownership is the language the search engines like Bing use.  They make it impossible to verify an account unless you have access to the webserver, which none of us who are HubPage users have access to.  Either HubPages sets up a workaround or Bing changes their verification process.  No biggie, most views come from Google.  There's no doubt that Google is the king of search right now.  Bing is still just a minor player, but I'd like to see their analytics for my HubPages domain.

Not entirely accurate. Sites offer out hosting to make your own site, usually on a free sub-domain, you can edit it like a normal site etc... and you technically own that sub-domain, but the owner of the top-domain is the core owner. So, it is like owning a share in a business kind of thing.

In that case you can upload things to the server and verify that you control the site.  The ownership term is what the search engines like to use.  Having control of your subdomain on the server is really what it's all about, and with HubPages we don't have such control.  I have no problem with that, as it would be a security nightmare for HubPages to give us that control.  Anyway, I am glad I got an answer to my question.

I just wonder why you want to submit your sub-domain in Google, Yahoo or Bing webmaster's tool, practically there is no need to do that, and it was a old trend and search engines are smarter now..
Generally, it cab be done for your newly built website that search engine crawlers don't visit rapidly, and that also was an old idea. Now, submitting sub-domain or xml sitemap in webmasters tools don't have much effect for indexing webpages.

And if your writing in HubPages, there is absolutely no need or submitting URL or sitemap to webmasters tool. Hubpages is a page rank 6 website and crawled by search engine's bot regularly and Google index your hub immediately after getting featured.

You just need some keyword research, quality and original content and some On Page SEO, you hub will be automatically indexed and will start getting search engine traffic.
I Left google webmaster a year ago, now don't use any still getting on top of Google search result and my sub-domain reaches google page rank 2 in 04 months. I published a hub yesterday and just featured today and already have 5 search visits from google and 01 from yahoo.

In today's internet world, you just need a original and good quality content for SEO. Nothing else.

It is used to track trends more evenly, allowing a look into further analytics, whether search engines use it to rank a site or not is nothing to do with it, the point is understanding what our viewers want.

Google's Webmaster Tools and Analytics are useful to see how your hubs are ranking and what search terms are working, for SEO purposes.  Google's Webmaster Tools also has the useful Fetch feature that helps force Google to reindex your site after you have Hubs unFeatured and the NOINDEX tag placed on them and then get it removed.  Otherwise, it could take Google a long time to include hubs that once had the NOINDEX tag in their search results.

I cannot find several of my newer hubs listed in google & they have a score of over 70 so I'm a bit concerned as to why.

It need a inbuilt configuration feature (plugin) for bing webmaster there is already available for Google Analytics, Adsense, Amazon, eBay etc. otherwise you need server access.
