This forum is intended for hubbers who use Google Adwords to drive more traffic to their hubs.
I wonder if we can use adwords and drive more traffic. It would be helpful. It is a bit expensive but I guess worth it.
I've never used adwords to drive traffic to Hubpages (e-commerce sites yes, but Hubpages definitely no). I can't think of anyone who has or has done so successfully. It might work if you have a great affiliate product promoted on a Hubpage that you already know converts really well, but I wouldn't be prepared to spend out the money needed to experiment.
Basically it's a huge risk and I wouldn't take it.
I use AdWords for my main business (proofreading and editing). AdWords is a great way to send targetted traffic , but you have to have a way to easily monetize clients when they come through. We spend around $400 a month on AdWords advertising and get a 700% return on investment, so for us it's worth it.
However, AdWords simply doesn't make sense for HubPages - There is no easy way to make money from people visiting your hubs, other than through page views (which is a very small amount per visitor) and then the figures simply don't add up.
As an example, say you were able to find a very cheap keyword to bid on in AdWords, and that it cost 10 cents per click (for reference, most of the keywords I use for my business cost between 80 cents and $1.50 per click). Well, for that ten cents, someone will visit one page, and if you're lucky a couple more pages. If we take a *very* generous CPM (cost per thousand views) of being $8, that means each page view will bring you 0.8 cents, so if they look at three pages, you'be be making 2.4 cents, for a ten cent spend; that's a very fast way to eat through your budget!
The way HubPages is setup, it's not super-easy to get sales through Amazon or affiliates either, so that's not really available as a money making strategy.
In addition, creating and maintaining an effective AdWords account can take many weeks of time - tweaking, refining, testing and the like. You'd be much better off spending that time on creating great content in the first place and promoting it to draw in organic search and social traffic, rather than PPC/AdWords.
You have the best insights here about Adwords. Thanks a lot. I am thinking of trying soon.
Didn't realise you were replying to me. Yes I know adwords is effective as I do adwords consultancy work and manage several customer accounts, but I'd never recommend anyone pay for adwords to send traffic to their Hubpages.
I think I've heard of one or two people using a free voucher here, but like I said before I've never heard of anyone making any significant gains from it on HP.
Have to totally disagree with you about whether someone can earn well on HP through amazon or other affiliates. Both offer much higher returns for me than CPM or CPC. I personally would never use adwords to promote those kinds of Hubs either, but if someone was going to try adwords on HP, then those are the types of hubs they'd need to try it on - particularly if it's a non capsule affiliate link - don't want to be giving away 40% of potential revenue off the bat!
It would be certainly interesting to see what quality scores might be achievable (or not) in this scenario. I would guess that they'd be pretty poor.
Hi, I actually meant to reply to the OP My only point about Amazon and Affiliates is that it wouldn't work economically to use AdWords to send traffic to hubs in the hope of getting Amz / Aff sales; I realise they can work well from other traffic sources.

I have had my adwords account suspended due to illicit clicking though we do not know who was doing this. Never had a payout ever. However though this was months ago adwords are still on my hubpages and I cannot suspend the account. Don't want to provide free advertising for Google, and...

...guess what? It seems that unless I'm missing something, you now need to have an AdWords account to get the keyword tool to show the estimated average CPC for a keyword/phrase. If you don't have an AdWords account, you can *sort* by CPC, but you can't actually view the CPC column any...

I'm not sure what to think of this, but HP is advertising a part-time job (telecommuting is OK). The job is to find new Hubbers. Maybe they don't like the old ones?http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/mar/4327997100.htmlIt looks like HP is willing to spend a lot of money on AdWords to find...

With regard to Amazon's cancellation of California affiliates, will HP continue to let hubbers who live in other places earn from that affiliate program by keeping the Amazon capsules on already existing hubs or will you do away with it altogether and bring in alternative revenue streams?ebay...
