I have noticed for the last couple of months at least that it is almost impossible to get an author's profile loading fully.
Most of the time, I cannot get the profile to load at all. Sometimes, I manage to see it partially.
I'm wondering if it is the Pinterest style soup used to feature hubs in an endless series of bandwidth-heavy images below the profile itself.
My broadband speed sometimes goes to as low as 20 kps where I live in Wales. While I realise that the bandwidth problems of rural dwellers are not likely to be of much interest to the city people running HP, I can imagine that this issue could cause other similarly affected visitors to leave the site and never return.
Would it not be possible to have a user-selectable option to show what really matters in an author's profile, namely the hub titles and summaries without the pictorial padding?
Wow, I'm sorry for those load times! I'll bring this up at our next community meeting and see what we can do.
Sorry to hear that your connection can get so slow.
I think your best solution might be to use a browser that has functionality built for slower connections.
Opera comes to mind and they have a version for Windows 7.
Here is some more information:

You might also be able to disable Flash and/or automatic image loading in your browser.
Here is some info about how to do so in Chrome.
http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-573 … in-chrome/
Keep in mind that the default photo uploader uses Flash and some ads as well.
That would be great, Simone.
Individual hubs are generally not affected. Even those with numerous comments may take a while, but usually load fully. Forum threads are also OK. Likewise, going into "explore: hubs" is OK.
On the other hand, I'm having problems with profiles even of not very prolific hubbers.
Hi Matthew,
The thing is, HP profiles are the only web pages that give me this sort of problem practically every time I try to access them. Other sites with lots of images do not, not even Pinterest. I can also play all sorts of games without any problems, and I know some of those can be quite demanding.
If I disable flash I won't be able to use a very large number of the sites I use regularly, and likewise, I'm loath to downgrade to a very basis browser.
I think I'll live without visiting HP profiles, since the price of accessing them seems to be to lose out on functionality everywhere else on the Net.
Your profile page loads in less than a second. In that respect, it's great for those with high speed connections when landing on your profile page.
I think it's strange that it only appears to happen for you on HP profiles. I wonder why.
I really have no clue, but it is very odd. I was wondering if there was some weird coding behind the scenes, which made profiles a greater burden on a computer than they would seem to be. That is why I mentioned it here.
Some profiles use a large image as their background. While it may look nice (or not), it takes a while for the browser to render and fill the space. Meanwhile the slideshow is also loading at least the first image. On top of this the thumbnail images for the other hubs are being loaded. I've noticed some profile pages are slower than they ought to, and I have consistently high speed.
Some browsers may be able to render this more quickly, even on a slow connection.
I think Hubpages should discourage the use of a background image, or at least limit the size to 100 pixels square, and something that will 'tile' well, when repeated across the background. There are ways of optimizing an image for the web. You basically want to make the resolution and file size as low as practicable, and still retain a moderate degree of clarity.
Hey again WriteAngled,
We discussed this again in our community meeting and it just doesn't look as though it would be practical for us to implement the sort of change that you suggested.
Your best bet would be to give one of Matt's recommended fixes a try or to even turn off image loading on your browser. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Why pages are not loading properly?Since 3, 4 days the pages are not loading properly on my computer, not only at Hubpages but at all websites. They are clumsy, with double columns at some parts of the page with ads, comments and posts everything mixed up. I have to reload again each time on many...

Boy, it took me several hours to write one hub today. The edit and save-edit functions have been a pain in my rump all day. I can't figure out any particular pattern, just that a lot of times when I go to save an edit, the save doesn't work and my hub goes pale - cannot click...

I just updated my HubPages profile a couple days ago and in my profile linked to some of my favorite hub topics that I wrote about. Is this bad to do this since on the profile page we have those same hubs randomly come up below? I just don't want overkill but like the thought that I've got my...

I was studying the Authorship Markup on the new profile format that has been released for staff only at this time. I noticed that the HTML link to other profiles is coded as rel="me nofollow". This defeats the purpose of rel="me" for Google authorship markup since...
