Hub Scores

   I'm sure this has been asked before, but I have tried due diligence and cannot find an answer to my question. I published a new hub yesterday about gun control and common sense, and it's score is flat-lined at 45. I published a new hub today, and it's score is already climbing. My first hub has steadily climbed since publication, and is at 72. The gun control hub has more views, more comments, and word count, images, and layout are nearly exactly the same as the other two hubs I have. All three hubs are featured. What is wrong with the gun control hub? Do these scores even matter? Can some veterans look at my gun control hub and give me an idea of why it's score is not climbing?
   If it is inappropriate to ask for views in the interest of critiques please let me know, not trying to break any rules here! Just want to post good hubs!

      Hi Desmith, the hubscore uses a combination of things. There several factors that affect individual hubscore such as keywords, uniqueness, search friendliness and overall quality. Your other hubs may have a better chance of getting organic traffic while the gun control hub may be more appealing to the HP community. The algorithm is complex so don't worry about it too much.
      
      I usually find that topics which have not been extensively covered both on HP and on the internet tend to start off with a nice score and climb more quickly than those that have many other hubs written about the same thing.

         Thank you for your insight. That is just the opposite of what I would have thought. Good info!

            What HP and Google likes is unique content, topics which are new, not been covered a million time so you will find these topics pushing up in the page ranks much faster. So the same thing goes for HP as well.
            
            Of course this is my own experience and not an official answer.

      And your Hub's HubScore will eventually go up on its own, though because people don't tend to see a lot of traffic and sustained interest in Hubs on political subjects (they tend to experience a spike, then very little attention), chances are its HubScore isn't going to get suuuuper high.
      
      But here's what matters most: DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE HUBSCORE OF NEW HUBS! I've never seen it do anyone any good. The best thing to do would be to instead focus on creating high quality, original, useful content.

   Could be that gun control is a controversial subject right now...but I would say go ahead and express your thoughts...when the time is right, I'm sure your score will go up unless your hub was about permitting guns.  The goal of peace is ultimately NO guns...except for military and public defense (police, fbi, cia, etc).

   Thanks for the reply, I wondered if the topic itself may have doomed it, and if changing the topic would help. My stance on the issue was purposely ambivalent; I was more commenting on common sense with gun control as the vehicle for discussion. I will try not to worry so much about the score, I am just a little OCD about such things!

      I have 3 hubs on gun-control issues and they have started in the 50s, worked up into the 80s and usually hang out somewhere in the 70s. This is certainly not my forte and I really try not stressing over how it works. But I can tell you that generally speaking, all hubs will fluxuate, they will rise and fall and maintain from time to time. I'm guessing while it's not doing anything magical now, it will raise and you will even see it do well from time to time. Oh and the OCD thing doesn't go away... :-)

   You can be certain the staff here at Hubpages.com...are the sorts of folks that would support any sort of statist authoritarian la la land garbage to the bitter ending of it all.....however, I'm pretty sure the subject of gun control is a bit ....saturated on the web....and probably, that is why the page you speak of, regardless of how good it may be, has the low score.

   Because your gun control hub is a controversial issue, some who read it may mark it up and others who read it may mark it down. I wouldn't be too worried about it. I know - I'm telling an OCD someone who's already worried about it to chill and relax. Silly, isn't it? So maybe I'll just say that when you think about it another detail to add is deep breathing? Anyway, the number of views is the important thing.
