I've only used Google's Keyword Tool, and I don't think I'm using it to its potential; I kind of just plug in words and see what I get. So, I'd be interested, if anyone knows, a more fruitful way to use it; particularly when it comes to finding long-tail keywords, which I don't exactly know how to get, except I've done it almost accidentally several times; wouldn't mind knowing how to do it intentionally.

But I know there are other keyword tools out there, though many of them you have to pay for; I'm curious which one is best and why.

Here are a couple keyword tools that were mentioned in an SEO book I came across in the bookstore tonight.  I haven't had a chance to try them out yet:
      Keyworddiscovery.com
      SEMrush.com

I have seen Jaaxy mentioned as well and have used the free trial.  Jaaxy provides more feedback on which keywords have potential for getting traffic than Google Keyword Tool.

I have tried many keyword tool but among all i prefer google keyword tool.  It gives you exact search and  broad search . You can analyze the searches of keyword according to google as per your needs and select the keyword.  There are many other benefits of this tool. Once you tried this tool you can easily rely on it.

That is good to know that it is reliable and accurate because it's easy to find, easy to use and free. I will have to study it more and find out how to pinpoint keyword better with the tool.

Simone said after use that the Google Keyword Tool is not completely accurate. I'm still using it, for lack of knowing of anything perfect.

I can't confirm which is the best Keyword Tool ( I also use Google Keyword Tool most of the time), but here is a link to some options for Long Tail Keyword suggestions (including Google):

I think Google ad-words keyword tool is the best.

I use Google keyword tool and Traffic Travis v4.. Traffic Travis v4 actually gives you the keyword competition for specific keywords. The free version (which is what I'm using) has restrictions but its still a helpful program.
