I used to be labeled a "level five" commenter. Then I was labeled a "level three" commenter. Now I am at "level four" commenter,
Can you explain why I was demoted in the first place?
This is pretty embarrassing.
It's nothing to be embarrassed about. The more you comment the higher it gets. the less you comment the lower it gets. It's an activity accolade. You need to keep active for it to remain constant. I was a level 8 and am now a level 5.
Hi Doodlehead,
Sorry for the confusion (and embarrassment)! As Cardisa and Anna Marie Bowman have pointed out, the Commenter Accolade is dynamic and changes with your activity on HubPages over time. If you've been out of town or spending more time away from the computer, the Accolade's number will go down as your activity does (but it certainly doesn't mean you're being a bad community member or anything like that). Nothing at all to be embarrassed about!
In my case, I'm just thankful they don't have negative numbers.
It really isn't all that embarrassing. It's a fluctuating accolade that reflects how often you comment on hubs. If you commented more last week, than you did this week, it will go down, and so on. It's the same with the accolade about helping other hubbers by engaging in the forums. I seem to have lost that accolade due to the fact that I haven't been as active here as I used to be. I took a step away from the forums, and HP in general, to devote some more time to family issues. Take some time to read a little more work by other Hubbers, and leave a comment or two, and it will go back up again. It really isn't that big of a deal.
Did they demote you?
I mean what does this have to do with the quality of ones' hubs?
Your commenter accolade has nothing to do with the quality of your hubs. It has everything to do with the frequency with which you comment on other hubbers' hubs. It's an activity accolade which will fluctuate based on how active you are in the community. Don;t worry too much about it. It's not related to your hubs at all.
It happens. I wouldn't let it bother you. It's just a number. I imagine that those who have 7+ do a lot of commenting. Many of us don't have time to read and comment on every hub we read. Often, I simply rate the hub or give it a tweet.
Jeez...so the commenter rank does not stay once you've reached a level? It fluctuates too?
I am taking my first class in HTML. After one more class and then PHP. Watch out THEN because it will be my own platform after that.
You nonconformist you, I like seeing rugged individuals working through issues.
Ha Ha---usually I make a real wreck of things....especially people who try to hold me back.

An Accolade is an award for an achievement. But Commenter Level isn't an award for achievement - it's just a measure of your commenting activity at that point in time. In that sense, it's more like Hubber Score. The trouble is that people think it is an award for achievement...

I've been a level VIII commenter for well over a year. Today, I noticed I've been reduced to level VII, yet I comment on several hubs every single day. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know why my level may have been reduced?

Ok, so I participate in the forums, ask and answer questions, read hubs and leave comments that are more than "great hub." (And I've been doing these all along). Granted I haven't written a new hub in a while but I have been active here. At what point does my commenter level ever get past...
