Editor's Choice nominations

Since we can now nominate hubs for Editor's Choice, and since we have no way of knowing which hubs are already chosen, how do we know we are not recommending one that is already EC?  Or does that matter?

Look at the URL of the Hub.  If it doesn't contain a subdomain, it is already an EC Hub.

Thanks, WF. I should have known the answer was obvious-- and right in front of me.

You can also nominate your own Hubs if you want to.  (I opted out.)

OK-- I know you opted out, but that brings up another question. We don't necessarily know if a hubber that we would consider nominating has opted out, do we?
(Also, I think it is a little tacky to nominate one's own, but that's just an opinion.)

Robin E. said it was OK to nominate yourself, so she doesn't think it's tacky and I don't think it's tacky, either. Consider the fact that it takes them a long time to look at everything on the site.

If you nominate a Hub from someone who opted out, it's no big deal.  It just won't be selected.

Are we doing people a favor?  I don't know how they're doing lately.

Overall, I don't know either. Most of mine are near the top of my list, both in score and views.
(But maybe they are selected because of score and views???)
A few are lagging down a ways. I think it's too soon to determine overrall effect, if any.

If we recommend someone's hub for EC doesn't mean it will be chosen.

Being asked to choose EC hubs is a bit like being used as cheap labour.
Obviously, the question has only been asked to save time and effort. They get some recommendations - they read and agree, or not.
Even the whole EC thing is up for debate as to whether or not it is a good thing.
Some people found their hubs did better when ranked through topic.
Others found their hubs did better free-standing on their own.
I would have liked a choice, at hub level, not domain level.
Everyone has some hubs do better on their subdomain, or hubs that do worse on HP's domain.
It'll all got to do with linking.
I have previously unpublished hubs when I could not figure out how to remove links to other hubs that I felt were damaging.
We had a certain amount of autonomy when we could choose our own keywords.
Now it is all done for us, but I still found several hubs linked to unsavoury hubs which were either straight out wrong, or were spun.
I could not find a way to 'unhook' my hubs, so chose to unpublish instead.

      IzzyM--
I am much more of a casual hubber than many  of you who put in a great deal of effort. I don't expect to earn a lot, and my expectations are being met.
If anyone wants to nominate any of my hubs for EC-- I don't mind at all. I already have several, and since I do very little promoting (I tweet a few now and then) maybe it would be an indicator of how much the EC label affects traffic.

Izzy says:"Being asked to choose EC hubs is a bit like being used as cheap labour.
Obviously, the question has only been asked to save time and effort."

I saw it as an option. I wouldn't feel used if I have a choice of doing it or not. I haven't done it yet, and feel no obligation. If I choose to help other hubbers, (and staff) it will be because I have time and inclination, not expecting any reward or punishment. I do not owe anyone, neither do they owe me.

I haven't personally seen either-- but all of this is anecdotal. I haven't seen any  overall objective data on this. Perhaps it is silly to think  that HP is trying to maximize our (and therefore their own) profits, but this is what I think.

I don't pay much attention to linking or keywords, but I DO agree with your point about choosing our own keywords-- I have seen a lot of "related subjects" listed on my hubs that are NOT related in any way that I can understand.
