If God created the Earth, why do so many Christians want to destroy it

Simple question, why are so many members of the 'Christian Right' fiercely opposed to fighting global warming, or pretty much any other potential eco-friendly measures? If God created this world, surely we should strive look after it properly?

Believers are only interested in their afterlife fantasies, many despise living and the life they have on Earth and aren't interested in doing anything that would actually help mankind, quite the contrary, in fact.

They don't preach to save the souls of others, only to save themselve's. They were told that, if they did not do so, then they too were damned to the fate of commonality. Christianity has become more of a title than a way of life.

I'm Christian and not opposed to global warming. If anything, I'm an environmentalist. I think taking care of the Earth is extremely important. There's scientific proof that the atmosphere is warming. It could just be natural flux, but we should still do all we can to reduce our carbon footprint.

Have you never read Al Gore's answer? He created the Save the Earth to pay for the New World Order & get rich. He is a mulit-billionarie. Scientist have debunked Al Gore numerous times in speeches even at Al Gore's invitation in hopes they would support his claims. They don't. So keep supporting Al Gore and new world order, but I am not.

I can give you another answer. The New World Order's answer to correcting the problem of their pretense of Earth Saving is to get rid of at least a billion people. So who wants to die to save Mother Earth, because Al Gore has attached Gaia, the Mother goddess of all gods and goddesses to this Earth Salvation. Everyone has their god/goddesses so do the NWO leaders. Everyone should know this by now. This another reason I do not support Earth Save. Go to websites about Gaia. Look up Maurice Strong. Find out about Green Charter, Earth Charter folks. It's all about clearing populations off the face of the Earth, that means YOU to save Mother Earth.

Ok, drop the NWO secretly controlling the world theories for a moment, even global warming aside, you breathe right? Well surely you'd prefer to breathe clean oxygen than that filled with poisonous gases?

That alone should be enough to want to take some form of action?

I think the problem is multi faceted. To the fundamentalists, admitting that global warming is a problem would be, in their minds, evidence that God is not in control of everything. That's taboo.

Also, the end is nigh, so wtf. There's a new heaven and earth on the way so global warming will soon be a thing of the past, or they will soon be raptured so it isn't really their problem.

Also, and most importantly, God really wants them to experience financial prosperity. Cap and Trade is the hand tool of Satan.

A little cynical perhaps but there is some truth in what you say.

I heard a journalist once note that the reason the Christian right are so keen to support Israel is that they believe that conflict between Israel and the Islamic world must precede the second coming of Jesus. So by supporting Israel they can speed events along.

Exactly. We even have farmers attempting to breed the unblemished red heifer (it is a heifer, isn't it) for the sacrifice that apparently needs to happen. I watched a documentary where a couple of rabbis were inspecting one for a white hair.

Interesting point about admitting God is not in control of anything, but thats a very narrow minded and potentially dangerous way to go about things surely?

If God 'gave' us this planet then surely the believers should look after it, it's like your parents spending their life savings to buy you a flash new car, only for you to destroy it...but obviously on a much larger scale!

I'll admit, I could be wrong. I haven't had a Christian say that to me.  I was thinking out loud, I guess. I agree with you also. For those who believe God gave them this world, not taking care if it is tantamount to looking a gift horse in the mouth.

I think you're probably right, I've never thought of it that way before but it sounds very much like it could be true, at least for many.

Its not that God is not in control. Its just that global warming did not surprise God, just as the atomic bomb did not surprise God. God easily calculated what electricity would do to his creation, how it would spur the industrial age and how cars would be invented and how their exhaust would damage the atmosphere and factory exhaust and pollution and and and; just as God completely knew that if he does not end things at just the right time mankind will extinguish itself. But this is to deep for most.

Suffice it to say, God is in control to the extent that he may be magically making a difference in the speed that the earth is being affected by global warming.
Makes sense to think God is aware and looking out for his creation(s)

Hmm, okay, forgive my ignorance if I'm wrong but are you basically saying we shouldn't care about global warming or anything destructive for that matter because as soon as it gets to bad God will step in and sort it all out?

It gets really cold up here in Canada, so I am hopeful that the ozone will deteriorate JUST enough to raise the temperatures in the winter....

    God willing

Thin ozone layer lets in lethal ultraviolet radiation that kills Canadians who think that it lets in heat and infra-red.
