Who is responsible for the well being of the United States, the people or the politicians?
you think both people and politicians are responsible?
If the "wellbeing of the United States" means the well being of the people here and possibly also the animals and environment--the of course that is the job of all people on one way or another.
Ideally, the politicians should be serving as representatives of the people, but since we all know how well that works out, I'd have to say it's the people. Our biggest responsibility is to elect better politicians.
In a perfect situation we would not need politicians in the sense that we have them now. There would be a country of willing and able people to help those who are unable. Neighbors would help neighbors, we would all do what was best for the WORLD (not just our country), and politicians would be a last resort to every situation. Sadly though a large amount of people in this country are just as bad as the politicians they whine about. The country will continue to fall to crap because it is occupied by a lot of crap (not read "everyone is crap") and ran by a lot of crap.
I just feel that once we have elections and people vote they just leave everything up to the politicians and once we realize that the politicians aren't doing the job they were put into office to do we just turn away and wait for a new batch of elections, as people i think we need to have more control and stay on top of the people we elect. I totally agree peeples, Our standards for what we are willing to accept have decreased a lot over the years and we just accept anything and everything without looking at the facts.
I think a lot of people, probably most people are pretty constantly involved with something to do with the general good, be it buying organic, helping at the kid's school, signing a petition... We can't all burst into the chamber and make a new law, but most people are trying to be a positive influence on the world in some way.
The people! We elect representatives to do just that...REPRESENT US. But some of them have their own agendas. WE THE PEOPLE need to hold our elected officials more accountable. I get that you can't please all of the people all of the time, but they should not forget who put them into office.
Unfortunately that very attitude - that our representatives represent those that elect them - results in the massive pork spending we see, where those same representatives ignore what the country needs in favor of grabbing all that can be had to give to their constituents.
Whatever happened to building a better country instead of stealing from the citizens of Arizona to build a new library for the citizens of Maine?

Is...
