There are similar myths and common threads throughout the different religions of the world. For instance, there are dozens of flood myths and stories. I think it's possible that different people over the ages have been able to tap into some common storehouse of information about the universe, through dreams and meditation and other mystic experiences.
The reason different religions form is that the information is filtered through different people, each with their own though processes and life experience. These experiences are hard to communicate to other people, and so get garbled in the process. Thus the varying religions and mythology, with a lot of the same threads throughout.
Hard to see how a common database would yield such radically differing versions of god, the universe and life in general. There is also a distinct lack of evidence that dreams, meditation or any other "mystic" experience produces truth that is not available to ordinary reason and research.
Or, people heard the stories of others and wrote there own. The Hebrews got there stories from the Sumer, the Christians got their stories from the Hebrews and the Muslims got their stories from both Christians and Jews. It's simply made up stuff. We can't get information that we don't have in our heads from any divine sources otherwise we would all be given the same information, but some of us do make great creative writers.
Some religions steal from others, but there are some instances where the stories are the same, like on different hemispheres with huge seas between them. Especially flood myths. Not that I think there was a giant worldwide flood, I think it is a metaphor for something else entirely.
Or, there were a lot of floods when the ice sheets melted and oceans rose 12,000 years ago.
Thousands of years is a long time to carry on an oral tradition of real floods in the form of flood myths. Has to be something else.
So they can carry on the oral tradition for a few thousand year, but not four or five?
It would be more like 8 thousand, if the epic of Gilgamesh was written 4000 years ago
Jung called it the collective unconscious, but I think there is more to it than that.

Why do people of different religions constantly argue which is the the "true" religion? It seems like a never ending cycle. It seems like a war of words. I became caught in it at one time myself. I don't know that anyone will ever win it?

Why is there not one god with one message for all mankind? Why should there be vast differences between religions where doctrines and dogma conflict and contradict if there is one god? Why should each religion forbid their followers to follow any other religion if there is one god? Why are the vast...

We often think of the parable of the talents as a lesson in utilizing your gifts, and doing best with what you are given. (Matthew 25:14-30)What I would like to present is the relationship between different churches in regard to this parable. With so many people born into so many churches, what...
