I was perusing Hubber profiles and reading bios, and I realized...

I can't write a professional bio for myself, even if my life depended on it.  How much bearing does a writer's bio on HubPages have on their success? Just curious.

It all depends on your purposes for writing here. For me my bio is also a resume of sorts for when I send my articles as samples to clients. My clients can read my profile and feel assured that I have some experience in the field in which I will be doing their project.

Also, your subdomain is your website and your profile page is like an about page or bio page.

I think if you depend primarily on organic traffic, then most people visiting your articles don't read your bio. They read your article and get what they want and move on. I think many visitors are not aware of the profile page. As others have said, I tend to agree, the profile page is mainly for Hubbers.

I personally haven't spent a lot of time on bios. On this account, I just basically did a personal outline of my background and interests. On another account I have, the bio is even more brief and innocuous. I've spent more time on my author bio for my own websites, I guess because I keep each one of them focused on a particular subject, and my background is more relevant in those cases.

As NateB says, the vast majority of your visitors will never visit your profile, so it doesn't matter from that perspective.

Most of the people who see your profile will be other Hubbers, so write it for them.   Unless, like Cardisa, you are trying to attract writing gigs.

I probably have the most unprofessional bio on HubPages

"Michael Kizmet is a neurotic atheist, that is waiting for a reason to believe. Michael will almost, always break up two women fighting, unless they're fighting over him of course. He does not believe in accepting generosity, but ironically he detests anyone with the means to be generous, and chooses not to be..

He loves wild animals, especially endangered, and thinks people who are pro-captivity are just heartless sociopaths. He also fights criminals in his free time, unless they're related, then he's obligated to look the other way. Oh, and he also writes from time to time, in the pretentious third-person sort of way."

I love it...I chuckled a few times. You don't have to go all professional. There are worse bios on here than you...actually there are lots of profiles without bios.

Thank you Cardisa, I appreciate you taking the time to placate my concerns. Professionalism is such an attractive quality in a woman. Have a great day!

Michael....What your profile tells me quite clearly, is that you are clever, funny, creative, compassionate and extremely confident.
It tells me that you can speak of yourself with gut honesty and a touch of humor.  Humor, because YOU know of your incredible talents and your worth, without getting into a boring Professional resume.  No bright-lights marquee needed.  Bah!
This easily leads your readers and potential fans to know we can trust you and be comfortable in communications with you.
I must say this a hundred times each day...to anyone and everyone who comes my way to ask for my advice or opinions:
"Just be YOURSELF......always."  How else can you ever know who someone is speaking to when they say, "I absolutely Love YOU.?"..........Peace, Paula

You have an original bio that speaks to your personality, and that's all that matters. Keep up the good work!

While browsing for new published  Hubs, under my chosen category, I click on the title and immediately review the writer's profile, before reading the Hub. This gives me an idea of the writer's credibility on the subject. If credible, I will read it.
