..."Thousands of GIs participated in the antiwar movement. Many felt betrayed by their government. They established coffee houses and underground newspapers where they shared information about resistance. During the course of the war, more than 500,000 soldiers deserted. The strength of the rebellion of ground troops caused the military to shift to an air war. Ultimately, the war claimed the lives of 58,000 Americans. Untold numbers were wounded and returned with post-traumatic stress disorder. In an astounding statistic, more Vietnam veterans have committed suicide than were killed in the war...", "In 1968, US soldiers slaughtered 500 unarmed old men, women and children in the Vietnamese village of My Lai" "...from 1961 to 1971, the US sprayed 18 million gallons of chemicals over 20 percent of South Vietnam’s jungles and 36 percent of its mangrove forests"... That is what Vietnam was. Your opinion?

It was as big a today as it is was then. The Gulf of Tonkin incident was all LBJ wanted to enter into an escalation under a totally different premise. Even the evil McNamara tried to get us out of there but rode the Presidents lies because of his allegiance to him. We still do it today as Bush made up the WMD controversy against all evidence presented. The US runs rough shod into these encounters incurring thousands and thousands of deaths, injuries and expense and walks away without a care in the world when the next "opportunity" arises to flex its' military muscle. What is it in us that takes it upon itself to inject ourselves into other countries business when they tell us no. Instead of helping those countries who ask us to help in their plagues and disease ridden squalor we concentrate on those who oppose or intervention.

What's the difference between Iraq and Vietnam?

Remind me, weren't you the one that jubilated to our bombing of Iraq? Then in what way your discourse is coherent?

You seem to post to revel in your own understanding. If you go back I only thought it would be okay to "bomb the hell out of them" if any retaliation was meted out on us and if we must go to war with them. I am sorry that you let your misinterpretations keep you from being relevant. sad

It is VERY relevant. What does retaliation EVEN mean in your hypothesis? In what way is it rational? Iraq has been invaded for 10 years now. We attacked them not the other way around. And you are referring to an impossible retaliation. What is the probability for Iraq to retaliate after 10 years of oppression military and psychologically? Again where is the relevancy in your assumption? Who did cause tort to the other? Is it we or they?
But even if it would be the case, wouldn't it be their RIGHT? Which will leave anybody invade, abuse, kill its people without retaliation? We bombed the HELL OUT OF THEM ALREADY. Is it still relevant?

You seem to forget that I am in favor of a complete withdrawal of all troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. With that in mind if there were to be any repercussions by them on us we should "bomb the hell out of them". That is what I was speaking of relevance to my comments. I enjoy your enthusiasm but you should listen more closely to the responses.

Who ever attacked us? The ONLY terrorism we experienced domestically was government-made. What would be the probability for Iraqis to retaliate since, you apparently, didn't understand the rationale behind my last statement?
