Saving money is fun! If you consider saving money a chore, your likelihood of being successful budgeting is slim to none. There are fun ways to save money. Make it a challenge to cook like a chef at home rather than eating out. Find ways to get discount tickets to attend events. Give yourself a goal of reducing your credit card debt in half within the next 6 months. Use priceline for your next hotel stay, 4 start hotel at 2 star prices sounds great in my opinion.
Wealth is not built by spending as much as you can. It's great to get what you want at 1/2 price or less. Once you master saving money then move on to investments. Don't forget to save some of our money for the unexpected.
How do you save money?
What have you implemented in your household that helps either reduce your debt or help you live within your means?
Any success stories of reducing debt by reducing your spending habits?
When we were last in our son and daughter-in-law's house, we see them pack their lunches everyday even though they're in high paying jobs. I was really impressed. They know how much they're saving by doing this whereas one our grandsons, a new entrant in the job market eats breakfast and other meals outside everyday. Of course, there is always nothing left of what he earned. By just starting to eat breakfast at home, my husband showed him how much he'll save everyday.
One of the things we tackled in our household is the amount of waste we have. Food rot and are thrown out. We cook more than what we can eat so some times, they're thrown out. I do recycle them, at times, but one does not really have the luxury of time. Bottles of wine...left over coffee, et. al. I hope that by tackling this issue of waste, we will then spend less.
I do not find saving fun, but I do it anyway because I do not want to spend my golden years living in a cardboard box.
It's challenging. Budgeting is so important but if you make it a challenge then it becomes fun. What about located a website that sells food at 1/2 price or using groupon in your area for services.
It feels good to pay 1/2 price or creating cooking dishes that rival restaurant food.
Well I think of the No means Yes and Yes me No approach to spending. That means for me it is not about avoiding spending or saving per se. It is about saying no to one thing so I can say yes to another thing that I want more- even if I haven't identified that thing I want yet. There is nothing more frustrating than only seeing things you really want to buy when you have no money- and then not seeing anything you do when you do have the money!
My favorite saving lately is a membership to a cinema publicity group (free) which gives me free tickets to see films in advance of their release date for free. They do this so they can generate a buzz about the films to aid in the marketing. I am actually off to one tonight which looks like it will be great according to the trailer!

Are we really saving any money? Either way, money has to be spent right? Not to mention the extra time you have to make for cooking prior to going to work. Any thoughts?
