This may be a stupid question but is it possible to copy say a paragraph out of a different website. I'Ve never tried it but I think someone in the hub community may have tried it. I'm not saying I'm going to copy the whole blog from a different website. But is it ok to copy a paragraph out of a different website? I know it may be stupid and if you tired it before please tell me what happens.
Thanks !
Well there's the law and then there's HubPages
It's definitely OK to copy a short extract from another site IF it is being used within the "fair use" context and the emphasis is on short and relevant.
By and large my experience, as somebody who uses quotes regularly online in a legitimate way, is that Google does not get it's tentacles in a twist for short quotes. What it doesn't like is wholesale lifting and copying of content
Like I said HubPages is something else. Whether they've got their filters set to absolutely anything copied or anything less than (say) a specific number of characters I really don't know.
You might like to take a look at the quotation module - always good for a quote - and it's not causing me a problem on HubPages!
I've copied large enough quotes from either websites or books for certain film and literature hubs and never had a problem, I always reference the original quote or link it in to my hub. Plagiarism and duplicate content is a big issue, so instead of just taking someone elses-or even your own work from a different site, always, always reference and make note of where you got the extract.
Hubpages for the most part wants original content, so copying large quotes from somewhere else will surely send up a flag, If you really need the extract, try pasting it into word, coloring the page, add the site where it came from and saving as a pdf, then you can upload your extract as a picture and you shouldn't have problems.
Referencing is really important. It shows you are not trying to right out steal someones work, even if it is your own.
Also you will want to make sure that you include enough original content in your hub so that the proportion of the number of words in the quote is small compared to the overall content of the hub.

I know I've seen this elsewhere online, where you can't actually copy text or images. You can view pictures but not download them or even embed them. Would it be possible to do this at all? At least it would cut down on manual scraping attempts - although content could still be harvested via RSS...

Do you copy-write your articles on Hubpages? If you copy-write your articles on Hubpages, what copywriter service do you use and why are you with them?

Hi there,I was preparing a hub for publishing. After I finished my article, it has slightly more than 2000 words in total. So my question is, whether this article has the potential for getting more traffic or not?

When someone makes a comment on a hub, blog post or creates a product review, who owns the copyright to that comment? Does Amazon own the copyright for product reviews? Does Hubpages or the Hub author own the copyright to comments? Is there even a copyright for such snippets?

How do you Hubbers deal with it when people copy your Hub?I admit I have been VERY lax on the issue of people copying my Hubs but recently it's gotten bad. Today I found my PET rat article copied on a pest control blog! That was the first time I've been really POed about a copy and paste. So I am...
