"WASHINGTON — In late spring, with the war in Syria grinding into its fifth year amid an ever-deepening humanitarian catastrophe for millions of refugees, 14 United States senators wrote a letter to President Obama urging that at least 65,000 of the displaced Syrians be allowed to resettle in the United States.
Is the following an example of "paranoid thinking" ?
Critics denounced the idea, saying it would open the nation’s borders to potential terrorists, and some even branded the authors of the letter as the “jihadi caucus.”

Wondering.
In the news:
"This week the coastguard said it had rescued more than 42,000 people in the Aegean Sea in the first five months of 2015, and 2,160 in the past week. More than 100 were pulled from the sea on Wednesday night alone, trying to reach Kos, the coastguard told AFP."
"The family was among the millions dead or on the run from the Islamic State’s continuing campaign of destruction in Syria and Iraq."

Should we help the Syrian refugees by allowing them to relocate on our soil?
call me part of the jihadi caucus, but we should.
The US already shelters millions of refugees and migrants from Latin America and the Caribbean, which Europe does not do. Telling the US to take more Syrians is like telling Europe to take more Latin Americans.
My instinct is No … but then, I am one of the paranoid ones.
We should have done SOMETHING to alleviate the situation in Syria, (How I don't know,) in the first place.
(How? if any one knows. By keeping Gaddafi in place?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muammar_Gaddafi )
The only "something" that will happen actual refugees right now is taking more of them in.
The Department of Homeland Security has an extensive process for letting refugees into the United States. It involves rigorous background checks and ensuring that data is available on any refugee who is seeking asylum. If there any doubts, they are not allowed into the country.
I don't think it's paranoid to think terrorists would attempt to use the refugee crisis to their advantage. We have processes in place to prevent that, though. Yes, we could mess up and let in a terrorist, but are we really going to turn our backs on families who will be killed if they return to Syria, on the remote possibility that one might be a terrorist? Other countries are letting in refugees. We should, too, because it's the right thing to do.
That sounds reasonable. Why haven't we I wonder.
I wish we had nothing to do with that side of globe.
And think about it.
When we are awake they are asleep and when we are asleep they are awake.
Lets leave the dark side of the globe (when we are awake) alone.
