Christ is a metaphor

OK, I've heard a lot against Christ on here. But the trouble is that Christ is something really negligible. What you guys seem to forget is that Christ, the real one, is long dead. What stands today is a cultural icon, a metaphor. And this metaphor isn't really anything fixed or unchangeable. You can change it just by providing a better metaphor.

You guys seem to forget that people use 'Christ', the word and the concept, to express and denote something that they can not express otherwise: they have no better alternative metaphor to convey that spiritual thing that they have, and feel. Those who have knowledge and access to other cultures, may alternatively use 'Krishna', 'Vishnu' etc — to convey similar objectives.

If you don't like Christ, then bring on a better metaphor.

What an interesting post.  As for what the gospels say, Christ is not long dead, he is alive and represents the resurrection that is to come.  He ascended into heaven and it says he will come back in the same way he left, and has gone to prepare a place, etc.

I think part of the reason Christ is such a part of society even today, is because he may just be alive, he is real, and the story isn't just a story at all.  (I am a Christian myself, and believe he is alive, to never die again.)   Some verses to show some of the text. ( I would encourage further reading of the surrounding text to get the full context.)

      John 14:2-4
"In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3"If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. 4"And you know the way where I am going."

      Acts 1:10-11
nd as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them. 11They also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven."

Those are just a couple of verses, and in sharing them I know they will not be received by many here who have themselves convinced there is no good reason to believe.  I have come to the opposite conclusion and think there are reasons to believe, and simply share these verses to show the idea of Jesus being alive and just not here physically is based on at least something.

Still, an interesting post, and worth thinking about, and I know I didn't address the whole thing, just part.

Thank you, DasEngal smile  Thinking things through and going back to the gospels and scripture are so helpful when tossing around these ideas.

On October 1st, 2015, Christopher Harper-Mercer went to the Umpaqua Community College near Roseburg, Oregon.  A surviving victim of the mass shooting said that the shooter came into the classroom and at point blank range shot the professor in the head killing him.  He then told everyone to get on the floor.  One by one he told students to stand up and he asked them if they were a Christian.  If they said they were a Christian he shot and killed them.  There were 8 (eight) Christians students murdered that day who bravely stood up and professed that they were Christians, knowing that they were going to be killed by an anti-christian hater.

Those students were willing to be killed for their faith in Jesus Christ, instead of denying their faith in Christ.  I am a follower of Jesus Christ and I will not deny my faith even onto death.

    You want a better metaphor?
I cannot help you with that.

I think you may need to fact check that narrative,  and not just go with what people who are looking for a persecution/martyr narrative are saying.

We are the victims of a liberal media that does not report the truth unless it supports the Washing cartel's agenda.    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQORWp3fkRQ

Fanaticism has nothing to do with god, but with ego. It is simply the "I am always right mentality"!

I am a believer and totally agree that the word Christ is interchangeadle with other cultural descriptions. This in no way means Jesus is dead but quite the opposite: if the same power manifests over time it obviously doesn't roll over and die. A clear understanding of this is essential to spiritual progress.
