I'm looking at Tumblr for my photography and wondered if anyone has had positive results using it for traffic here and other places you work?
Long time ago I posted a link there to one of my hubs here. They immediately banned me. Screw them and haven't been back since. Even worse, they are owned by Yahoo. So they're probably not going to be around much longer anyway.
I didn't realize you couldn't have outside links...even though I see many posts with hashtags...
You can't be banned from Tumblr for linking anywhere, not even to porn. That's not how Tumblr operates. (Actually, you are allowed to post adult content, images or text or links, there.)
Most likely, Tumblr users would just reblog your images, and not click through to your Hubs. That is very much how Tumblr operates.
It may have changed, but I got banned from Tumblr for exactly that!
Some years ago I followed someone's advice to set up a Tumblr account and post links to my blogs and Hubs. Like most newbies, I didn't realise the importance of posting other material as well. So, banned.
just found this...

Wow! Looks like things have changed since I've been there.
A. I guess posting links to our own hubs is now ok there.
B. When I was there, my fellow users were all actually nice to me. They liked and clicked all the time. According to the "just found this" link, I guess those days are gone forever.
read the "just found this "post..it states that other users don't like outside linking.
I did, thus my previous "B" statement.
Maybe they all became surly after Yahoo bought them.
-Update- I've edited my previous "B" statement to clarify my meaning. Sorry about that.
The gentleman who posted to Medium is describing his experience, which may or may not match yours.
Based on my experiences, I would say the same things that he has said about click-thrus but I disagree about building a personal following and selectively disagree with his comments on selling. If you are just pushing links, or feel that CafePress or Zazzle make good products, I believe he is describing the main response most people experience.
Tumblr is all about building a personal following, but not if what you are offering followers is the personality and representation of a marketer.
If you are an independent crafter making original product with high-quality standards, and you are anti-eBay or anti-Etsy, you have a great chance at finding your market and paying the bills.
But I seriously agree that links from Tumblr to elsewhere is the anti-strategy for that site.
I post links to Tumblr all the time. It never hurts to try it.
I've been on tumblr for over 6 years now and I have a bunch of different styles of blog, my most popular (around 2 years old) has almost 5000 followers. I recently posted a few links to some of my hubs, and while I can say I certainly didn't get any bad response, I maybe got a handful of reblogs, a couple score of likes, and maybe about 10 click through's altogether.
Tumblr isn't a fantastic place to advertise, but if you're looking for a little traffic then I guess it can't hurt. I expect that as I continue to grow my following on there then opportunities to drive traffic will increase.
I have found it to be not very helpful in terms of driving traffic to Hubs. Maybe a few visits come through. But I'm not savvy with Tumblr, maybe some people make it work. I also worried it could be seen by Google as excessive backlinking to use Tumblr, because, if I remember correctly, Tumblr posts are treated as backlinks; they even can get indexed on Google, I think. In other words, if every time someone reblogs your post, it's like getting another backlink; almost like you're using a link farm. But don't quote me on that, I could be wrong.
Though, to me, it seems like another social site like Facebook or Pinterest, so seems like it could have potential for getting traffic.
I'm fairly new to it but I have a Tumblr (look me up y'all - I go by "Keefer1970" over there)... I don't have many followers yet but I do post links to my Hubs on it, as well as lots of other goofy/random music and movie related stuff. I haven't seen much Hub traffic from it aside from an odd hit here and there so far, but I figure it can't hurt.
I followed you but couldn't see any items on your profile. Maybe you have to follow me kiwinana71 for me to view your page.
Can't hurt to try and improve the views on our hubs.
It doesn't appear that Tumblr is a big traffic generator for any Hubbers...
Tumblr's acceptable use policy, https://www.tumblr.com/policy/en/community
Malicious or fraudulent linking will get you banned, as will spamming people and non-genuine social gestures. Creating a blog solely for affiliate marketing can get banned.
Social networking is simply a spam fest of sub standard garbage ruining the internet.
No one ever wrote anything that they should have 'shared'.
That's weird. I am following you now but I could see your stuff just fine before I even hit the "follow" button on your profile. (shrugs)
Thanks for following. Now you are following me I can see all your posts.

I started a Tumblr account in hopes that it would help bring more traffic to my hubs... I write a short paragraph about a hub and then link to it... Hubs I share are on different topics of course. Since I do a lot of recipe/cooking related hubs I was wondering if it is a good to have a separate...

Can any give me some tips on how to use Twitter to increase my traffic?
by cryptid 12 years ago
I've been working through some ideas of how to increase by online presence and bring in traffic besides what I get from Big G. I'm trying to work with some social media platforms, but unfortunately it turns out I'm not very social, or at least not that good at social media. I then...
