   Collectively  younger Americans probably should be barred from voting  , not out of  an age issue itself , but  merely because  of social - cultural maturity .     Although our  overall sense  of education should be  "better " than ever it would seem ,  according to the amount of money pumped into it ,  I believe  their overall peer -cultural -maturity is far lower than ever .   Younger Americans are less interested in politics ,  history ,  economics and generally lack a  serious involvement in life.
   
   "But Young people ARE serious about our future"............prove it here .

      You will let 10 year olds buy a gun, let 18 years old defend the nation in war, but keep people from voting until 30? I will be damned if I let people send me into a battlefield and I do not have any political imput as to how I got there. That is as ridiculous as "Logan's Run" science fiction.
      
      What is this, just because they are progressive people generally and are wanting to move forward rather than backwards, thereby supporting the Democrats in larger numbers, they should not be allowed to vote? I have heard this silly stuff from AnnCoulter and her ilk, before.
      
      I am afraid that idea will always be 'dead on arrival'!

         I think you are absolutely right Credence2. Although I personally feel that many nations have too young an age at which it is legal to vote - because experience and perspective is important in evaluating political decisions - the idea of raising the voting age to 30 is clearly over the top.
         
         Although I wouldn't cast aspersions on the poser of the question who may have specific reasons for his views, I think like you that many on the right of American politics may wish to see the voting age increased simply because the younger generation do tend to be more progressive. In addition to being generally more favourable to the Democrats, most polls suggest the younger generation are more inclined to gun control and less inclined to religious affiliation. All of these factors tend to make me believe that the younger generation in America is eminently more sensible as a group than the older generation! (yourself Credence as a member of the (slightly) older generation of course very much excepted from that generalisation!!

            Hi, Greensleeves, Good to hear from you. You always were a 'stand up' sort of guy. How is everything on the other side of the pond?
            
            I have to say that the voting age needs to be consistent with whatever the age of majority for that society happens to be.
            
            I can't imagine society run by a bunch sclorotic old men and women, we need the fresh infusion of new ideas and approaches offered by the young. The proper mix will allow for the possibility of incremental change. Things moving forward as does time itself, but allowing the oldsters time to take a breath and hang on to the rails.
            
            Yeah, that ok, GH, I am one of the oldsters, but I like to think that I am young at heart and remember what it was like to be young and frustrated that old people were holding up everything, ever defensive of tired, and moth eaten old rags.

      I don't know the answer. But, I do know that there is a big academic problem in the US.  Our educational system is sub-standard compared with other countries.
      
      Jerry Brown will go down as the worst governor ever in history maybe. Now, he has suspended the California High School Exit Exam. As of January 1st 2016 that goes into effect.  (Wikipedia)  Kids don't have to pass to graduate.
      
      How are these young people without a solid education going to make educated decisions for themselves?    The government should never have been allowed to take over education in public schools.  Look at the mess.  They are that ignorant in CA schools that they cannot pass the test to graduate.

         No people , I am not  actually for raising the age of the voter ,   I  actually wanted to do this for the reaction . However ,  we do have a  maturity - education - participation  problem with our younger adults in America ,    whether anyone wants to admit this or not , I don't really care .    But for one thing ,  our youth and younger adults have been duly dumbed  down by a substandard  elementary education system !      Secondly , Our  college  education systems are polluted by a  liberal agenda ,  by  intellectual progressive  activists , left over  from the sixties ,bent upon changing the very  direction of traditional  politics .   Like many here  have stated ,  I also believe that when a man [woman ] can  be in the military ,of course  they should already be voting .    But something has to be done to  make more young people politically mature , its not enough to participate  , they should actually know the system of politics at a younger age .

      I disagree. We cannot judge all young people or generalize them. There are many twenty something year olds who follow politicians and the parties with some serious consideration. For those who do not follow politics, they probably do not register to vote or vote at all. Voting is a privilege in this country and we should not raise the voting age and take that privilege away from our younger generation. After all, the future is really in the hands of the younger generation. We are just merely going for the ride. This is of course just my opinion, as we are all entitled to our opinions. Another privilege we have in the United States. I do not always vote in every election, but you can bet I will vote for a new president. I am highly disappointed with our current president. I did vote for him the first time wanting the speech of change, but did not vote for him the second time. As for who I will vote for next, hmm, still undecided.

   I think the old farts, who allowed the school systems to be ravaged in the United States, and taxes to be raised to the sky, should not be allowed to vote.  People who say things like "What does it matter" and "We want to better protect your privacy" should not be allowed to vote. People who call you and say  "Give me your social security number and date of birth and I will make sure your relative who has been arrested in Honduras will be released immediately" should not be allowed to vote either.
   Young people aren't stupid, it's the information fed to them that makes them look that way.  They are far more perceptive than most old people. 
   I'm always amazed that if the frontal lobe doesn't evolve until around 25, society  ever became what it is.  Human life span for most of history has been between 35-50 years
