  The back and forth about conservative and liberal ideologies is useless. To participate in this makes you right? And the other wrong? Once you have established that, there is nowhere to go in the conversation that soon decays into an argument and then a fight.
  
  Who cares what Obama has done? You will never get agreement until maybe thirty years from now when they re-write history to make him so. That is what they have done with several Presidents with Reagan, Kennedy and going on back to Wilson who gave us the catastrophic Federal Reserve system. All of these guys are revered by history yet they did some really stupid things.

  Have you heard of the Iraq war and the Afghanistan wars. Maybe they have been re-classified but when there are still boots on the ground in either a training or supplemental capacity and they can get killed in the process, it is still war. We have flown over 4,000 sorties over Syria and Iraq against ISIS. We have done this so many times before starting in Korea through Vietnam and so on.
  
  The economy sucks for the middle class. We are now seeing figures that are approaching sub levels seen in 2007. The housing industry is a wreck and credit is at a standstill in financing new homes. Wall Street, thanks to the bailout and Feds phony lending has ruined the dollar. It has no value.
  
  The TPP will finish off what NAFTA started. To evacuate good paying jobs that were based on our economy and now have been reduced to third world wages if anybody in the US wants to compete with them.
  
  A rose colored set of glasses may provide what you offer but the reality is that we in the US are sinking in debt and are losing the ability to work our way out of it.

  At least, if this country eventually ends up rotting in U NO WHERE, we can blame it on the internet.
  If half the people are being paid, are bots and socks, etc. then I don't know what good I can do. I was pretty much trying to save the nation.
  Fortunately, I think most of the nation thinks like I do; especially if they stay out of forums and chat groups.

  Read up on the TPP and his fast track initiative. It is a bullying agreement that is being shoved down our throats. It may amaze you. The corporations could not have done it without Changing the duty and import taxes. Obama is trying to erase environmental and patent laws with this agreement.
  
  By the way Obama promised to close Guantanomo, troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq. None of this has happened. He may have inherited these wars from dumbass but he hasn't helped it either. American servicemen are still dieing in Afghanistan.

  If there are the differences you speak of why do the corporations and millionaires donate equally to both parties.

  Don't expect to see any changes in Wall Street with Hillary. Bill was a favorite of theirs and the two of them will draw on their support for her run at the Presidency. There is evidence from recently released papers that Bill Clinton pushed for the repeal of the Glass/Steagall act [1] What he did accomplish was sign into legislation the Gramm/Leach/Bliley Act that repealed certain protective elements against Wall Streets gambling with government insured banking assets with commercial investments in speculative markets.[2]
  
  I don't know why you trust any of them. Liberal, progressive or conservative as they are serving at the whim and pleasure of the ones who support them the most. They are the ones with money and their agenda is always in the fore front of everything that goes down. To make any sense of it all we must vote them all out. ALL OF THEM to have a shot at objective and effective governing. Your support of either or any of these institutions is like whipping a dead horse when trying to get any cognitive legislation done that is not corporate approved. They are in charge and you are playing right into their hands thinking a partisan advantage exists without their input. They play one against the other in a game of bait and switch.

  Until we implement Federally Sunbsidized Elections, which is imperative to ensure "Fair & Equitable" competition or eliminate completely the Republican Party, Democratic Candidates still need to finance their campaigns in a vigorous way right? And where is the MONEY, Dirty, Tainted, or Otherwise? Yup, Wall Street Swindlers ~ It's almost inevitable that most candidates need to draw from this well until things change ~
  
  Progressive Democrats as a Party SUPPORT or CHAMPION the following, all of which the Majority of Conservatives attempt to OBSTRUCT ~
  
  * Affordable / Single Payer Health Care for ALL
  * Labor Unions
  * Equal Pay for Women

  * Funding of Women's Health Care - already done. How about equal funding for men's health care, or that of children? The elderly?
  
  So most of your list is already done, and the rest except for SS and illegal aliens, in progress. Haven't heard anything about SS and only "Let them in and support them from the tax base" about foreign citizens illegally living in the US. Any better suggestions?

  First, ObamaCare was not mentioned in your little list. It is also an abomination; designed and operating to primarily pad the pockets of insurance companies without providing for any more health care for anyone. Just health care insurance; insurance with so high a deductible that anyone that can't afford to buy decent insurance can't afford to actually use ObamaCare either. So, still no health care for the poor, just more money for the insurance companies.
  
  Can you point to where Bush wants to leave all the elderly without health care? Or is it just that he doesn't like medicare - a completely different subject? Nor is he reluctant to spend money on your favorite give-away - women's health care. The only thing he has said is that he isn't sure the current spending levels are appropriate. Your claims that he wants to end it are false (not unusual when you make claims). Sounds more to me that you are female and want more "free" (to you) benefits than you already collect from someone else's dime.
  
  Lots of people have been "at war" with labor unions for a very long time. Including more than a few good companies driven out of business by outrageous union demands that the market place would not support. But your claim was that we needed unions (I don't dispute that) and we already have them. So your point is...what?

  What a laugh - that ObamaCare insurance is synonymous with actual health care. Let me clue you; I have ObamaCare provided for me at very little cost. The cost comes when I see a doctor: the first $6,000 each year is applied to the deductible and I have to pay it. For that amount I could purchase a decent insurance plan that would actually cover something! So no, the ObamaCare insurance abortion has absolutely nothing to do with getting health care for the vast majority of us. A relative handful with serious pre-existing conditions get better health care, but that's about it.
  
  You are failing to mention what Bush would replace medicare with and wish the rest of us to believe that he will offer nothing at all, leaving all elderly unable to have any health care at all. I don't believe that for a second - how about "the rest of the story" instead of just normal liberal rhetoric? (I understand that you don't want the full story, and don't want to see others get it, but reasoning people out there DO.)
  
  And what does liberals supporting unlimited union power have to do with the FACT that unions are a fact of life in the US? Or that most fiscal conservatives understand the dangers of unlimited unions? Just a rudimentary fact that unions exist in the US, which is what I said, isn't it?

  $6000 Deductable is depleted first, then your insurance is activated ~ What if you are hospitalized and incur a $50,000 or $100,000 hospital bill? You pay $6,000 and the insurance should pay the balance of $45,000 or $95,000 ~
  
  We are getting a little closer to the "Full Story"
  
  With NO OBAMACARE / INSURANCE taxpayers foot the hospital bill and that's a fact ~
  
  Your second part is actually insanely comical ~ And what will good ole' Jeb Bush replace Medicare with? He can't even think of a phrase to replace "ANCHOR BABY" and you trust this numbskull with a cornerstone of medical care for our precious Senior Citizens???   And what if I need a doctor for a minor injury or illness? What little I have for health care has already gone into the wonderful "insurance", leaving nothing for an office visit. So, for anything outside a major hospital stay (none in 65 years), I stay home and in bed. No health care at all.
  
  And if you think taxpayers aren't already "footing the bill" for major health issues, you are hiding your head in the sand. Who do you think is paying that $800 per month for the insurance? (Hint - it isn't Santa Claus and insurance companies are absolutely going to take in more than they pay out).
  
  No, I don't think he does anymore than you appear to. Nor do I think it politically possible to simply take all the health care from the elderly, so what do YOU think he would replace it with? More Obamacare, paid for by the taxpayer instead of payroll contributions? That would be the liberal way, after all - total care paid for from someone else's pocket!

  Keeping the conflicting ideology argument going does what? So your ideology is better than mine? Does that mean you are correct in everything that is to be done? What about those on both sides that are in it for themselves. Are they using an ideology to base an argument on and then slipping in underneath to get their agenda realized that has nothing to do with it? Your ideology argument wreaks of flawed logic because the ideology is not what is in question most of the time. Bills that pass looking like something good for the country most of the time have backroom deals that profit those that the politicians work for. The ones that profit most support both ideologies regardless of the arguments.

Why? No one cares if a politician lies - they ALL lie. No one cares if they have no real morals - NONE of them do. Why should Bush be a special case that people actually listen to and make judgements based on what he says or does?

I mean, when a politician says he didn't know it was illegal to steal timber from state land for his private home and is re-elected anyway, it's a pretty clear case of "Who cares?" (Happened in Idaho). When a politician says oral sex isn't having sex and remains respected and admired, and is then impeached, it's a pretty clear case of "Who cares?".

Who cares what a politician does or says? We vote them in because of their skin color, or sex, or because we like the way they wear their hat. It can't be anything else or we would never have the group in D.C. that inhabit that cesspool of humanity.

  Obama let ALL the bastards on Wall Street off for collapsing the economy in their greedy aspirations to quantify their earnings and value. As a result we (the government) have made them all too big to fail in making them bigger than the Federal Reserve! They hold the economy hostage by threatening to crash the market with any raising of the Fed interest rates We have bought off their toxic assets and inflated the dollar to where it is worth absolutely nothing in a tangible way.
  
  He caved on the ACA by allowing the healthcare industry run the system and negotiate their participation in a for profit mode. A single payer system would have run all their exorbitant profits into the ground only allowing more realistic earnings and not at the expense of the government and the membership. This was done under the auspices of transparency? WRONG! It was done in secret just as the Iran nuclear deal was done. Don't get me started on that one.
  
  He never closed down Guantanamo as promised and has escalated the DRONE LEGACY in Pakistan that goes unreported daily. As a result our relationship with them has created so much strife and anger for a whole new generation of would be terrorists.
  
  He now is working a deal to make his buddies on Wall Street immensely rich in negotiating another SECRET DEAL in the TPP to kill more jobs in the USA.
  
  A glorious and noble tenure as the President is far from how I would describe his administration. I voted for the man twice because the idiots the GOP offered were all about war with McCain and the numbskull from Wasilla and the next one was all about corporate greed and selling out the rest of the middle class.
  
  I can understand how you would like to think only good things about this very likable man but he has continually sold us out and candy coating his tenure is just about as bad as candy coating the other douche bags that came before him.

  a. With worthless insurance they cannot afford to use, but which pads the pockets of industry.
  c. An insane premium based on statistical usage rather than merely shifting costs to someone else. Insurance is not, and never was, just another charity - it was a means to share unexpected costs on a statistical basis. Premiums were always calculated on that basis, not on need of the purchaser - that action is called "charity", not "insurance".
  
  3. Which Obama had almost nothing to do with. The Supreme Court made the decision after dozens of states took the action Obama should have.

  No doubt there is some truth in this. But selling greed is being mixed up with measured gambling. You are making a bet with the insurance company you won't need their money in case something goes wrong. If something goes wrong the insurance company has a gaggle of lawyers digging out ways to hedge on the bet. This is all legal by the way but should have no status when it comes to health insurance.

  What do you mean by reversed? The affects of printing all the useless money to cover the bail outs has reversed nothing. It has only served to delay the inevitable.   RHansen, while, Obama's ACA has been a disappointment, is it not better than having done nothing, cruising toward certain oblivion with the status quo ante? Talk about the need for such a program has been in the air for almost 25 years.
  
  The GOP is philosophically opposed to the concept, period, regardless if there is any advantage for people or the overall budget.
  
  Back in 2009, the President was accused of ramming ACA down everyone's throat. To forstall almost certain GOP opposition, trying to get everyone on board he had to move away from Single Payer, and work with a concept that was used in Mass. by former Governor Romney, hoping that it would not be seen as way out in left field. Where did that get him?
  
  Yes, the sins of the Wall Street have not been corrected to my satisfaction, but it is not all Obama's fault regarding the outcome. You can bet that Bernie Sanders, should he become President, will find that the ideal and the reality are often times far apart.
  
  I am still concerned about the TPP and Guantanamo however. I am satisfied with the progress on the Iran negotiations. I touched on this in another thread I created.
  
  What modern President could avoid giving due recognition to these powerful lobbies? The better ones are at least not going to give them everything they want without a fight. And believe me, without any resistance they will take it all. That is the only difference we have now between good and bad Presidents.
  
  The GOP puts ups walls of resistance and fierce headwinds throught the Obama term, resistance that has been partisan and unprecedented. Obama has to work within a system where the adversaries are very powerful and influential. He had to shelve having Warren as head of a proposed Consumer protection bureau because the financial lobbies and GOP made such a stink because the bankers knew that with Warren, this new agency wasn't going to be just another rubber stamp.

  You and I have have discussed this before, politicians are crooks and have been since two sticks were rubbed together. I agree with all of the ideas and concepts you have suggested to rein their excesses in. But the upheavel of the system in a sea-change manner just simply is not going to happen.
  
  What is the alternative to Obama? Is he or she electable, can the he or she negotiate the thicket of competing interests, many of those quite adverse, powerful and resilient? It can't be about 'all or nothing' because you are going to end up with nothing. Better to promote those that work to move in the right direction or a least do not take us further the wrong way, as opposed to otherwise...

  Then why don't we do something to assure that the candidates are there for the job and not themselves? We elect these slime bags whose only intent is to carry out their own agenda. They use the system against us to make it happen and then we try to work within the very system they have developed over centuries to defeat our best intentions. Working within this system has proven fruitless and the proof is in the pudding. To further one party over the other only feeds into the problem. It diverts the focus away from the means by which we can achieve self rule and not ruling od the elite that can buy their way to even more wealth.

  The Platitude of the politician about effective and honest government is as trite as kissing babies. Even when you find one with good intentions at the beginning, can he or she keep from becoming corrupted by all the bribes and unwholesome influences? You look for the people that from their record and current activity are in the lions den and are not afraid to speak truth to power. The ones that do more than just talk. While accepting the fact that these sorts are few, they are, nevertheless, there. Does the electorate really understand what and who they vote for? I question that as well.

  Very good observations and ideas. The truth is that while there is so much money involved these truths shall never be worked out. Greed has taken the system over and if we try to continue on like it is not there in voting for them it will never change.
  
  Instead of trying to convince an apathetic, lazy and misinformed electorate that your ideology is effective in spite of what they know or don't know, it would be more beneficial to have the playing field wiped of the garbage automatically through term limits, publicly financed campaigns and lobby reform. These three things I find many people on opposite ends of ideology agree on. Those that don't wish to exercise control.

  The People still have to approve of all of these suggestions you present, as this is still a representative democracy or supposed to be. If the people are out of the equation then our current system of government becomes something else, and we do not want to go there. How do you impose these ideas without the "people" and their representatives being involved? In a democracy, education has to be the key. People get the government that they deserve, but it is still their Government and their choice and must always be their choice.

  The problem is that it is a representative democracy in appearance only. With the glut of money flowing into these campaigns it is anything but. For years we have acquiesced to settle for the choices presented us by the two major parties. These choices thoroughly vetted by the powers that be, have been bought and paid for through party and individual donors and with the new Supper PAC's that help conger up THEIR choice's for us to vote for. Citizen's like the Koch brothers, Sheldon Adelson and George Soros swing so much money into these campaigns that any true indication of candidate competency is skimmed over by Madison Avenue style P.R. and the moneyed influence it buys or buys out.
  
  The average voter spends very little time searching out the truth about the candidates and settle for who and what the party tells them too. Slick brochures with catchy slogans are fed to the voter and voila you have a winner. As evidenced in the latest GOP debate little time is spent on actual issues and remedies and more is spent on "Doing the Dozens" arguments. The gotcha ending is what resonates more than anything.
  
  I agree with your "but it is still their Government and their choice and must always be their choice." statement but the choices should be valid and ones that have a viable chance of governing us and not complementing wealthy payoffs.
  
  Term limits, federally funded campaigns and lobby reform is the only way for real responsible change.

  I really appreciate your affirmation of my post and you sum it up so well with those three words. American politics has become a game and the media treat it as such. As Robert Reich says they act as if this is a horse race. Only telling us who is in the lead and what they said is hardly reporting. Most of the time I have to ask myself what happened because the why it happened has overshadowed the clear facts. I remember the Bland case in Texas when I heard over and over again that she was dead because of a failure to signal a lane change. It took two weeks before anybody said she hung herself. The sensationalism is more important than the telling of a factual story. Making sense is what is most important when a decision has to be made, otherwise it is a crap shoot as to the outcome of any given story.
  
  This election seems to be about the predictions rather than issues. The Iran nuclear deal and it's explanation seems to be a complete secret while both sides claim the other is lying about the wording. The debate addressed none of that. We need to bring up the abortion and Gay marriage to deflect attention away from life changing agreements such as the TPP and how it will hurt the economy? They are law. Get over it already. The immigration issue is to build a fence? Just fine the people heavily with a threat of imprisonment for repeat offences who hire illegals and they will flee back home. Save money on the wall and patrol for terrorists instead.

  If you want to read a good book about the MSM you should read "Bias" by Bernie Goldberg. He was with CBS news for many years and he describes the way stories were changed to either make it less offensive to certain ethnic groups or eliminate the reasoning of the story to mean something entirely different. I watch and read from many different sources so I can at least get some idea of what may have really happened. I can't get it from one source as I trust none of them.

  I agree that there are those that haven't a clue as to how the system works but as more people who are qualified and not in it for the money get in things will improve. What would you rather have? Someone who while not savvy to the ways of the beltway is working for you or someone who is stealing you blind that is very smart in the ways of the system? Maybe the system needs changing to things like one item bills and a balanced budget. What are the chances of that happening with the crowd we have in there now?

  They are not in the picture yet because we have to adjust the system to allow them to enter. We as a people need to come together and force them out. Yes you will have to work shoulder to shoulder with conservatives, independents and maybe third party people such as Libertarians as an American and not an automaton. We have to agree that for the good of the country Congress has failed us and does not represent us anymore. Put aside your ideology and allow the system as it was created to represent all of us and see what a democratic/republic is supposed to do. Represent all of us and not those who can buy it.

If it did make a difference something already would have been done about the egregious overlooking of some of these issues. You are on the extreme outside of what can be done towards solving these issues because you expect the slime bags to care about your issues while they continue to ignore them because of their own agenda.   Oh yes. More money wanted? Just take it from someone in the guise of "taxes" because, after all, no one should have enough to pay taxes anyway. And if you have to go to foreign banks to get it, all the better. Just send in the military, right?
  
  Personally, I rather have the freedom to work multiple part time jobs than be enslaved to a politician for handouts. But that's just me and I know that not everyone agrees.

  Hardly the same at all, except in more liberal efforts to bypass the constitution.
  
  The first is rooted in that nasty "search and seizure" thing, the 4th amendment to the constitution and concerns privacy.
  
  The second has a double root in that both the second and fourteenth amendments are pertinent, which concern the right of every citizen to own and bear arms and our right to due process.
  
  It's pretty tenuous, then, to say they are the same just because liberals don't like free citizens or anything that gives them rights while limiting the power of big government. You might want to rethink that a little.

  Well, yes, I understand you don't like being called on bypassing the constitution by taking power granted to the people and giving it to Big Government.
  
  But that has nothing to do with calling an apple an orange. Regardless of your fascination with and determination to promote Big Government, the fact remains that the right to keep and bear arms and the right to due process doesn't have much to do with the right to privacy. They're all guaranteed to the people by our constitution, but that's about the only connection.
