The media continues to parrot that the fact that this is “the worst mass shooting in American history.” It is not. It’s just that most of the mass shootings in our country which have taken far more lives than Paddock did have involved white people terrorizing and murdering people of color.
1863 Bear River, Utah, where at least 250 Native Americans were slaughtered in 1863;
1890, Wounded Knee, South Dakota, with estimates of the death toll ranging from 150 to 300.
1917 armed whites rampaged through East St. Louis, slaughtering more than 100 African-Americans. In Tulsa in 1921, white mobs attacked a wealthy black neighborhood, killing as many as 300 people and leaving 8,000 homeless.

This is not an isolated instance:
News photograph captions describe a black man "looting" and a white couple "finding" supplies in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
Example of being "whitewashed” by popular media of African American women’s hair and skin tone.

Most of us get information from the mainstream media – which blatantly feeds us a biased distortion of the truth, with the wrong information, favoritism toward white people.
If you think of the news as simply reporting what you need to know, then you’re missing the fact that it’s reinforcing a basic idea of white supremacy: that white people are more valuable than people of color.
These associations, unfortunately, are pre-conscious. Those neurons fire faster than we can suppress them with our conscious mind. So, even if we believe in our heart-of-hearts that these connections are unfair or untrue, our unconscious is busy making the associations anyway. Biased reporting, in other words, changes the minds of viewers, literally. - https://thesocietypages.org/socimages/2 … ent-crime/
Absolutely not true. I have repeatedly heard and read the phrase "in modern U.S. history". People who own guns shouldn't claim media bias on this situation when it doesn't exist.

Of the 6 largest mass murders in modern US history, 3 were accomplished by fire and only one was by bullets. That one accounted for less than 2% of the death toll from the 6 incidents.
Question: does ignoring the far larger problem, limiting discussion to shootings as if it is worse, count as "media bias", a not-so-subtle push for gun controls while pretending it's the bigger problem?
Can you give some more info on the 6 largest mass murders in the last 100 years? I figure 100 years is modern isn't it?

history up to the present day, from some arbitrary point taken to represent the end of the Middle Ages.
Predictably, white folks deny white on non-white violence, and diminish it entirely as "old news" or deflecting the conversation to gun control which isn't talked about in the OP!
White violence against black people has been normalized. There’s a long history of American failure to acknowledge white hate & the answers to OP is evidence of that - just ignore the key theme and go off on a tangent with semantics as to what is "modern".

Didn't do an exhaustive study, but:
Oklahoma city bombing, 1995, 168 dead
Hartford circus fire, Hartford, CT, 1944, 168 dead
Our Lady of the Angels School fire, Chicago, 1958, 95 dead
Happy Land fire, NYC, 1990, 87 dead
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rampage_killers "other incidents"
Add the Twin Towers, 3,000 dead and the recent shooting, 59 dead. I indicated "modern" to satisfy Promisem, nothing more, but not sure I agree with the Indian killings. On a "war" footing, with almost zero recognition that Indians are people, too, (shades of slavery) in a far, far different cultural climate, I'm not sure I would include them as "murder". If you do, better add in several domestic wars fought as well, and I bet you could find "mass murders" in the gold rush and/or range wars.
I do pretty good at reading news and we don't have "1 mass shooting per day".
This is why CNN is pure propaganda.

I feel sorry for people who listen to corporate media propaganda and bias and believe it as gospel.
Waco Texas siege, during Bill Clinton's reign massacred 78 men, woman and children on April 19, 1993 with military forces. They didn't need to do that. They wanted to show us that they dared to slaughter Americans?
I am very grateful they didn't get back in the WH.
Not murder. If we count any killing at all, better include D-Day, the Alamo and the Battle of New Orleans.
I thought most of those people were killed in a fire started by a vehicle breaching the walls of the compound, not by attacking agents. Of course, Faux News spin and all that...
Reno screwed the pooch and gets a promotion for it.
Not that Wikipedia is all that reliable these days either, but this seems accurate as far as I remember it. Sometimes my memory isn't as good as it once was, not that WACO is something I wanted to recall. But, I do like to share information on WWW.

With a recent OP/Topic about ‘X’ my curiosity was piqued and went on an adventure. First I sought what social media sites are popular. I arrived with a Pew Research study/article; Americans’ Social Media Use (Jan 31, 2024).https://www.pewresearch.org/internet/20 … 01n40SKUAY The results...

I hate racism, I hate racist people, I think the Civil War was over slavery. I've seen this country embrace the self evident truth that all men are created equal, and the doctrine of Martin Luther King, until now.People get fired from their jobs and shunned from society (rightfully so) for spouting...

Why is the media coverage of economy consistently negative? After 9/11, the stock market plummeted. However, a less known reality is that 59 days later, on 11/9, the stock market had returned to its pre-9/11 status. Why was that not heralded? Why is the media consistently negative...

After a week of traveling, trying to get snatches of news when possible, this rankles me: there is no news coverage in this country. The media gets on a subject and beats it to death, excluding everything else. In a week of traveling every airport TV has blared inch by inch detail...

Are white people fearful when people of color wear certain clothing, such as a hoodie? In view of Trayvon Martin's shooting death, do you believe white people fear people of color who are wearing hoodies? I thought about this today as a white man who was wearing a hoodie as I walked into the...
