Which would you rather BE

   Do you rather be: (1) constantly struggling to keep your head above water, (2) live at a barely subsistent level with only necessities, (3) live a comfortable life, or (4) live a lifestyle when money is no object?

      I would rather live a FABULOUS lifestyle in which money was NO OBJECT.   I believe that wealth affords one a cultivated and civilized lifestyle beyond pure animal struggle.  People who are wealthy have access to the best food, health care, schools for their children, and neighborhoods.  Who wouldn't want that?!
      
      Also wealth affords one to save and invest for  his/her future and the future of his/her descendants.  It is great to have wealth which last for generations.  That is what smart people yearn for: to have THAT type of wealth!

         Wealth is the result of many factors. Luck is one of them. Consistent hard work is another. Positive momentum toward a lucrative goal is another. Providing services and helping others is another.  There are so many! Research skills, education, college degrees/and professional certificates, on-the-job experience, life-experience, etc., Family guidance and financial contributions from generous relatives. A healthy life-style which includes keeping regular hours of sleep, getting enough sleep and eating nutritious meals. Knowing how to keep physically and mentally healthy. Knowing how to rest when tired, staying away from artificial stimulants and depressants. The ability to stay calm and not worry to excess. Refraining from too much alcohol and mind and body altering substances. Knowing God is there for you in times of stress and need. Family support system, friend support system, a warm bed and a roof over your head, the ability to enjoy the people and pets in your life, taking time for nature and the ability to enjoy and appreciate life in general. I also think it is important to be able look out for yourself first before you try to bring someone else into your life. Joy of life is the most important.

         Whether rich, poor or just middlin', there is a price to pay.  What is the price often paid for being filthy rich?  Loss of self respect, or the respect of others?  80 hour work weeks?  Loss of family time?  Hate what is being done to others to get what you want?  Forced to live a lifestyle you don't like?
         
         If the price is commensurate with the reward I'd have to say that being rich would be wonderful.  But it's not a price I'd want to pay - I'll stick to middle of the road.  Comfortable.

   About a Boy is a good movie to mention here. The main character has no money worries at all. Is his life happy? Not really.
