    What should I write about?

STOP AND THINK ABOUT HOW YOU FEEL. HOW DO YOU FEEL?
GO TO A MUSEUM AND LOOK AT AN INTERESTING PICTURE. THEN WRITE ABOUT HOW IT LOOKS TO YOU, OR ABOUT A MYSTERY OF IT. LIKE THE MONE LISA. WHY IS SHE SMILING? AND WHY IS SHE ALWAYS LOOKING AT YOU? GLAD I COULD HELP (IF I DID!)

    Bye Till Next Request

It doesn't matter what you write about. Just start writing. The more you write, the more you'll come up with more ideas for what to write about. Start with the rain, the sun, the paperboy, your favorite food, your annoying neighbors, anything. Once you see those words on the paper, you will want to make them better. Rewriting is the goal, at this point.

Writing is a process. The beginning is where you just slap those words down on the paper (or computer screen). Don't worry about spelling or grammar or anything except telling, describing, reviewing or suggesting, whatever! Let the words flow. Do this, freely, unencumbered for a period of time.

Now read it over. Move stuff (ideas, words, paragraphs) around on the paper or screen. Rewrite. Throw out what you don't like. Add more to it. Walk away from it. Come back and read it again. Rewrite. Love what you're doing. Make a game of it. Wallow in the process.

Don't worry about how much time you're spending. Unless, of course you're getting paid and have a due date. If so, you probably already are familiar with the process.

BTW, do you read a lot? If not, make it a practice to do so. A lot of ideas for what to write about can come from or because of something you read. Good luck!

Write what you know, or are willing to learn about.

I go with the cliched but true answer, write what you know. Many years ago I went through my poetry phase and I got very pretentious about it and tried to become someone I wasn't. I tried to use styles that weren't my natural voice, I was caught up in trying to sound like a poet and most of my stuff was crap. One day I just decided to shoot straight and really open up and I wrote about myself.IT was the most honest and heartfelt poem I had ever written and while I thought it was totally bush league my writing pals loved it because they recognized it as honest and sometimes the art of writing is just honest observations about the world we live in.

Start with a simple 'What If?'

What if this happened in the real world?

From there, go on with 'What would happen next?' and continue on your track to see where it goes. All of my short stories come to me this way, and it gets easier to do with practice. smile

Answer question 5W +1 H. What, who, where, when, why and how of any kind. You will feel difficult to start, if you want to perfect and the fear of bad votes.
    Happy writing...

    Two questions for you?

    1. What do you know the most about? It must be something you love.

    2. Do it because you don't want to stop.

I use something I wrote some time ago: "Live as if everything I do, say or write will be published around the world, and I am not ashamed."

Write about love man , About sex and you ll get readers ! Write about money and you ll get another load of readers , but to be honest ..Write about ...Your thoughts , What you are thinking , Then only it would become original , Otherwise it will be a manufactured unreal , copy of some one else !

Good luck writing , Interesting and creative question with a lot a potential to attract thought provoking answers !

If you have hit that mental block but you still want to write about something or you are new to HubPages and you want a gentle nudge to get started then some (sometimes tongue-in-cheek) practical ideas (real subjects to write about) can be found in my article: "What can I write about? Some Ideas.
Newly published, it will be updated daily with my newest thoughts for subjects to write about. On first publication there are at least 500 subjects - at least 1 is associated with each of the HubPages sub-categories - so there is probably something for everyone!
Drop on by you may not regret it.

anything that interests you as well as what others would find interesting. i ask the same question sometimes, trying to write about topics that might get more traffic on my site, but i always feel better when i write about a passion of mine like music, sports or cooking. Start simple, once you right a few hubs it becomes more and more easier.
