A diabetic should avoid refined sugar. He should use honey in place of refined sugar. Wheat flour and cocumber are helpful.

The foods you should eat most of the time.100% whole grains, brown rice, beans and legumes, low fat animal protein, eggs, whole wheat pasta or Dreamfields pasta, all low carbohydrate veggies,(greens, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans,  squash, tomatoes, green peppers, onions, garlic) Higher carbohydrate veggies that are still good for you because of their nutritional value and fiber starting from best to least best( sweet potatos, carrots, peas, corn, white potatos) There are others in both groups but that is what has come to mind. Also low fat dairy like 1 % milk, yogurt, and low fat cheese. These have natural carbohydrates but are still healthy choices. Fruits like apples, blue berries, straw berries, oranges, grapefruit, kiwi,( bananas and watermelon and grapes are higher in sugar but can be eaten on occassion. Just remember  to watch portion sizes and stick with them. I have a hub article called using the carb counting method to manage your diabetes  that might give you some helpful info.

Limit foods made with refined sugars, and white flour and read food labels .

You need to specify which kind of diabetes are you concerned about. The Type 1 diabetics require different eating plan than Type 2 diabetics. As far as Type 2 diabetes is concerned, there was a 30 days challenge to cure diabetes completely and take the people who participated in it off the insulin. The regime consisted of raw fruits and vegetables and was devised by Dr. Gabriel Cousens. The raw food diet was officially proven to cure diabetes Type 2. The suggested foods had law glycemic index. Patients had to detoxify and alkalize their bodies before embarking on the 30 days long raw food diet.
The foods that have to absolutely be avoided are all processed foods with added sugar, white flour and rice, sugar, soft drinks, fast food, junk food. Vegetable, raw, unprocessed nuts, whole grain organic products, fresh law glycemic fruit, lean meats and fish are beneficial.
Diabetes is a serious disease. Consult your health care provider or certified nutritionist to create a nutritional plan.
