Where does food from the 99 cent store come from?

The 99 cent only stores sell brands that are in Vons and Ralphs at clearly, a fraction of the cost, so why are they in the 99 cent store?

The food comes from the same companies that all the rest do. When company's don't sell all there product to major stores they are sold at dollar stores. This is also good for a company because it allows people to get "addicted" to there product for cheap. A good example of this is I once bought an 8 pack of Bar-S hot dogs at Dollar Tree. People around me were like "I don't trust the meat here." Well, checking the expiration date on the package, it had over a month left of sell by date! If its the same brand, and not past the sell by date, its just as safe as buying it for $3.50 at Stop & Shop. Don't be afraid to try food from a dollar store, I never got sick from anything yet.

If grocery stores close, the merchandise is purchased by Dollar Stores.  Also, they get close-out products, odd flavors and the occasional box of stuff with Spanish lettering rather than English.

The food is just the same as the regular store.  Just check the expiration dates.  Cold food such as meats, cheeses and frozen dinners are usually the result of store, convenience store or discount store close outs.  If the date is good, the food is edible.

The also get overstocks.  If a store or a manufacturer has a surplus, they'll sell it to Dollar Stores to get rid of it.  Better to get some money for it than no money.

I didnt know they sold food in the .99 cent store.  If I shopped there I definitely wouldn't buy anything to eat, just cleaning products.  More than likely whatever edibles they sell probably has an expired expiration date
