My 3 yr old pitbull is suddenly showing signs of aggression.Has bit 3 people in as many days(not...
hard enough to break skin) but i am afraid i will have to get rid of her. Any tips on how i can break her of this before it gets more serious?? Please help. this is my baby..
Pitbulls are naturally aggressive dogs. Their only motivation is to protect what's theirs. (You, your property, their food) The only thing you can do is limit the amount of contact she has with strangers and work on your own excitement levels when she shows aggression. Try having new people over who know how she's going to react. Have those people bring her treats or toys to distract her from her aggressive tendencies and she'll quickly associate newcomers in your household with good things and fun.
But she isnt totally aggressive with strangers. i live with my grandmother and she bit her on the arm for NO apparent reason. I can understand the gas line guy who was tryin to come in the yard as protectiveness but my grandmother?? i can take her ANYWHERE and we usually have NO problems. Its just the past week she has been showing these signs. I just want to nip it in the bud before it gets any worse. Thanks for the help though!
Is your pittie spayed/neutered? Random hormone bursts can cause those things. I love these dogs and would love to do whatever I can to help you keep your dog.
I am curious if she was really being aggressive or if she was scared or even excited during these attacks. When you own a bully breed, you have to be a little more sensitive to the stimuli you have going on around them and make sure that you look into any role you or the environment may have played in provoking her.
Pitbulls for some reason at the age of three get a bit more aggressive. I learned this from my vet because I own 4 pitbulls and have experienced your situation with only 2 of them. It can be scary but your dog will calm down soon enough.
Has your dog had any training? Have you talked to your vet? You may also want to go to your local pet store and buy a book on pitbulls. They are very informative and help you to understand your dog much better.
I hope though that you do not give your dog up. Most people do not want pitbulls.
Let me know how things work out.

Was there for about an hour with all of the dogs (about 30 of them, big and small) having a great time. Then the pitbulls started coming. One pit came in through the gate with his...

My dog bit me and drew blood - should I put it down?Today, the dog bit me. Hard. On the thumb, deep puncture wound and black and blue mark on the nail. I thoughtlessly took a big bone away from her without testing first how Jackie would react. Because it wasn't dog food that she gulped down in 3...
