If a deaf person who reads lips "over-reads" your conversation with someone.
Would you consider it rude? What would you do about it?
How would you even know a deaf person had watched and understood your conversation?
I'd consider it rude, but if I "knew" (somehow?) that someone was doing it, I would probably say a few really random outlandish things or something. That's what I do when I can tell people are listening in too.
@relache...the reason I asked the question is because I was sitting at a coffee house on my laptop and there were several deaf people sitting nearby...as I was mouthing words to myself with regard to a topic I was working on...i noticed a couple of the deaf people watching my lips intently...coincidentally when I would make direct eye contact with them..they would drop their eyes and turn away...some of them red faced as if they knew they were "lip-dropping"...it kind of tickled me...I remember sitting back in my chair and thinking...OMG they've been "lip-dropping" me the whole time....LOL.....so I posted the question. I didn't do anything or say anything to them I was just interested in what other people might say or do. I imagine I would have been offended but given the nature of their "disability" I wondered what kind of things they "hear" on a daily basis. I even considered trying to get one of them to write a book about it. "Deaf-Muse".....LOL....

How do you cope with shallow people in your life? Many people I've met recently seem completely self absorbed and could care less about anyone who isn't going to indulge them when they ask a meaningless question. How do you continue a dying conversation with someone like this?

Are you a writer who reads or a writer who doesn't read?Almost every article on how to become a good writer emphasizes the necessity to read, read, read. I am not a reader per se; I can't sit down with a novel and almost never read purely for enjoyment. I get all of my information from...
