   Hehe , nice question.
   The reason for it I reckon is that its the way the human genes are programmed. There are some traits that make a person desirable and some that do the opposite.
   Its just that the majority of the humans think of wider hips and lips as desirable. But there are a few who may find the opposite attractive.
   Its just the way our genes are designed.

   Bright red lips suggest sexual receptivity. It is unconscious body language in a way... well, it was before lip stick was invented.
   
   Wide hips are better for child birthing. Men are genetically programmed to pick out women they subconsciously think can further their own genetic legacy.

   It's amazing...but for every desire, there is a person that will fulfill that desire.  Some men desire wide hips.  Some men desire round butts.  Some men desire long hair.  Some men desire wide lips. Alternatively, there are some men who are turned off by that.  Some men desire petite frames.  Some men desire flatter butts, but bigger breasts.  Some men love women with short hair.  Some men like smaller, perky lips.  For every desire, there is a person that will fulfill that desire. 
   
   It's just like asking, "Why do some people like chocolate milk versus regular milk" or "Why do some people like chocolate versus vanilla"?  Preferances give people the freedom to be who they desire to be.

   Men are macho when choosing woman. A woman with wide hips to a man says that she is built to deliver his children for him. Not  to mention his ideal counterpart for sex which is great, Lips are made for kissing and making mad-passionate love. Wide and fruitful lips seem to be the foundation for
   sexual fulfillment to this macho man.

   I think that the first poster is on to something! Not always, but I think that percentages bare out that the traits that most men find appealing, wide hips, large breasts, full lips relate to a women's child baring & child raising, as well as over all health (full lips).

   I do not consider women with wider lips to be beautiful.  Angelina Jolie's lips are grotesque to me.  Gwyneth Paltrow's are fine with me.
   
   As to the hips, those are attractive to me because that indicates a real woman.  I am suspicious  ;-)  of guys who like flat-assed narrow-hipped females.  Not to say that, OTH, that a big floppy butt and thunder thighs are attractive to me, either.

    can't think of a better answer that Theophanes say for it hit hit right on. you have to remember that girls are straight up and down when a child and we as boy beat them up like we do boys but the 1st pops of the body they then know the different.

    lips are usually connected to sexual etc, and hips for childbearing purposes. I think that large tits are preferred for childbearing purposes, or Freudian, lol. Men who are not breastfed when they are young look for it, just my opinion.

    Women with wider hips look like they will carry babies better - it is a survival thing.  We are genetically engineered to find a mate and so men will look for women who have, what they understand to be, the right equipment for baby making.

    Beauty is only a mind set. Beauty to one may be ugly to another. But wide lips and hip pose some different aspects. Its observed wide lips a real reflection of sexuality. Wide hip a comfortable structure for reproduction.

    Its all down to attraction. And like the majority of posters are saying, wider lips means more sexual pleasure and wider hips means you can carry healthy babies. I personally don't find wider liped women beautiful but I love wider hips.. Like Shakira says.. Hips don't lie...

    Not sure about the lips but the wider hips would indicate better child-bearing ability and survival through child-birth, and it is a subconscious survival of the fittest thing going on. He will subconsciously look for someone who is likely to give him children even if he thinks otherwise about having a family at the time.

    First of all i would like to say that a true man will never get attracted by your physical appearance.....  a true man loves you for what you are actually ..... bt yes ofcourse some man wants to look their princess/girl preety and are attracted through their appearance like wider hips and wider lips..... and this type of man are attracted physically not mentally......Be a type of guy who loves a girl for her good heart not through physical appearance because external beauty is for a short time which will fade away with time but internal beauty helps to make a better and strong relationship for lifetime....!!
