   The best pet is the dog you are willing to spend the time and energy on. You as the owner need to find the right dog for you, not just the cutest, not just the biggest, the right dog for you.  Then you need to spend the time and energy to show that dog respect, manners, and love. The more you put into your pet the more you will get back in kind. Teach your do gently, lovingly, and respectfully what you need him/her to do and know. Praise the dog, walk the dog, play with the dog daily. It takes time to build a friendship, it takes time to build a relationship; even with a dog.

   Over the years I have owned several breeds. So far the best breed for children that I have found is the King Charles Spaniel. They are not high strung. They are very trainable and gentle dogs.  It is a breed that loves being with their family and bonds well with children.  They are so loveable.
