   My computer hard disc is not partitioned,How do I partition it,to optimize performance.
   
   My laptop has more than 85% free space in its hard drive, but seems to be very slow to startup or shut down,and takes a lot of time to search for new pages. I used disk clean up, Disk Defragmenter and trends micro antivirus system tuner to cleanup all unwanted files, even then its slow.
   A friend advised me to partition to hard disc into C & D, and to keep Partition C small with only the startup programmes in it and to put all the other stuff in D,but since I and my friend are not computer Technicians, I  am asking people with good skills over here to please help me in this matter.

   It really doesn't make any sense to partition your disk like described above for performance reasons. If you had two separate hard drives, that might increase performance. I seriously doubt that your problems are partition-related though. Still, if you want to try it for yourself, go ahead. The easiest way I know of to do it is to use a Linux utility called GParted. You can download and burn a bootable CD that will allow you to change, add, delete, shrink or enlarge partitions at http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php .
   
   It is very simple to use. Once you have burned the file to a CD, boot your computer from the CD and answer the questions the program will ask you. You can then make choices using a graphical user interface. If you are running any version of Windows above Windows 98, I would suggest using NTFS as the file system. You can also use the FAT32 file system as well. Make sure to defragment your Windows installation prior to running the utility.

   I use iolo's System Mechanics to improve the start up speed and slowness of computers.  It fixes registry problems, clears up unused and temp files, disables unnecessary startup programs and has an internet optimizer.  It's expensive, though, for a year trial, but it has a money back guarantee.  It has worked so far with me running it once a week.  Tip: It helps to shut off antivirus programs running in the background when doing something that requires a lot of memory, too.

   Hi,
   You need to format the you hard disk by reinstalling windows.
   I think some third party software is avialablw which allows us to partition the Hard disk drive without reinstalling.Better google it and see.

   I recommend the "clean install" of Windows. Restart your computer, and insert an boot-able CD (DVD) of Windows. You'll have an option to format your hard drive. Before doing it, move all your files (needed, important) to an another partition or burn them to an medium. (CD,DVD...) . This is really the most effective way to speed up your computer and make sure that you have no viruses on/in your SYSTEM FILES , which are - by the way - almost impossible to fix. NOTE: Some viruses will show incorrect results of defrag. analyze !
