Who here would like to see Cannibis (and Industrial Hemp) legalized in the United States on a...
federal level? Who would like to see this happen in their state? Please feel free to justify your answer.
Why not, I mean if the Conservatives became potheads at least they'd be fun to listen to
Hemp, when used for industrial purposes, is a cheap, renewable source of fibre. Hemp can be used for many purposes such as paper, rope, clothing, fabric etc. There was even an entire working car made of hemp at one time. For many years, farmers were encouraged to grow hemp for the war effort. Then came marijuana; and, suddenly anything hemp became a phariah. Too bad - hemp is a remarkable plant with a multitude of uses other than being smoked.
I'd like to see that happen. I think it should be legal, at the state and federal level.
It used to be legal in this country, until it started causing financial problems for William Randolph Hearst. No need to bring Patty into it. She had nothing to do with anything, and she's been through enough.
On the other hand, I am a little concerned about these new strains that are genetically modified and so forth. Also, of course, smoking is very bad for the lungs, no matter what substance you're smoking.
I would love that. It would make it so much easier to acquire it, instead of having to know a friend who knows a friend who knows a "friend", or using online illegal markets to purchase it. The federal government could treat it like cigarettes and alcohol, but yet they don't. They will, eventually. It will prevail!

What is the big objection to growing industrial hemp - as a viable alternative to tabacco - in...the US?Could it be that some large agri/industrial concerns don't like the idea because hemp virtually grows itself (it is a weed afterall) and doesn't need to be sprayed with tons of herbicides and...
