Several studies indicate that 22% of husbands and 14% of wives have had sex with someone other...

than their spouse. What I want to know is: Does that mean that women will have affairs with fifty percent more men than men will have affairs with women? If a women has an affair she is more likely to envolve more men then the number of women that a man will have?

The flaw with what you stated is there is no background. Are the statistics based on lifetime or merely during when married? Location and culture play a part in it to. Frankly the more taboo in a culture cheating on others is the less it happens as the repercussions are far worse at times. Long ago the idea was you had sex when married taht was it now a days its common to have multiple partners in a lifetime.

Do the studies indicate that those partners "other than their spouses" were during marriage, or were they from relationships prior to the marriage?

Many studies show stats similar to what you have mentioned, but can be misread as they do include partners from before the marriage.

My appologies. These figures were reported as interviews with married people, not necessarily couples, and they reported events taking place during the marriage. The figures are similar in several studies. When the population is altered the results can be vastly different. In some cases the percentages of women engaging in extra-marital affairs exceed those for men. These biases by their nature predicte the results. For example, in cases of divorce, the woman is much more likely have to participated in an affair. Although the number is only around 50-60%. Perhaps I should gather this information and present it in a hub.

To me that just says that men are more likely to have affairs with unmarried women than women are to have them with unmarried men.
