Is Sarah Palin that dumb as the press portrays her ..?

..or is she building a public image similar to George W. Bush in order to gain popularity for a possible Republican nomination for President?

Why would anyone consider being portrayed like GW Bush to be an asset. I don't believe it's the media portaying her as you say "dumb". She avoids the media and concentrates on the socail websites most of the time. What I don't understand is why someone on her campaign staff doesn't stand up and refudiate her remarks before she makes them? Take the ones that explained her vast knowledge of the country of Africa for example.

Mike pointed out that she is a published author and that loses some of it's luster when you consider the educational levels of a majority of her supporter. The Faux News Site is selling her book and this explains alot about who's buying them.

Here is three more NY Times best selling authors.

    SEXY FOREVER, by Suzanne Somers.

Suzanne is a constant feature on the NewsMax site which is the printed version of the Faux News Channel. They sure do like best sellers over there in Fox Land.

YOU MIGHT BE A ZOMBIE AND OTHER BAD NEWS, by the Cracked.com staff

EARTH (THE BOOK), by Jon Stewart and others.

I don't think either of the last two needs an introduction.

If Best selling author status indicates political astuteness, everyone needs to give the kudo's to President Obama on his best selling book...1.OF THEE I SING, by Barack Obama. Illustrated by Loren Long

Well conservatives have always had a problem with intellectuals.

Likely because they don't fall for so easily for what folks like Beck, Limbaugh and Phelps try and sell them.

Palin isn't stupid, just gullible, IMO.

Though it would be nice to see what Amy Goodman from 'Democracy Now' would ask her in an intervew, and watch Palin completely melt down, , ,

She's not dumb, but she's not qualified to be president either.  She killed her chances with me back when she didn't finish her gubernatorial term.  I think she's best suited for what she's doing right now - being a successful fundraiser and media personality.

I don't think Bush ever tried to portray himself as the smartest guy in the room.  There were other qualities about him, however that appealed to people and I think him and his handlers had a good sense of that.

Palin is different.  Too often she says things and you can tell she doesn't know what she is saying, she is just repeating.  Not knowing how to correctly use a word for instance, or her recent "blood libel" comment.

Generally, I think that trying to look smarter than you are, actually makes you look dumber than you are.

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending upon how you feel about Sarah, her handlers do not seem nearly good enough to get her anywhere near the Presidency.

No she isn't nearly that bright. Anyone who can really listen to what she says and still take her seriously is defective.

I'd favor the term "ignorant". She definitely isn't presidential material.

The Saturday Night Live portrayal is very funny, but of course it is exaggerated.

Sarah isn't dumb.  I think she just isn't gifted with a silver tongue in the art of public speaking.  I'm sure with hard work that can improve.

Anyone who stands up for good morals is going to be picked on, whether they're from the Right or the Left.  Sarah is no exception.

the press doesn't need to portray her as ignorant - she does that herself.  ignorance is not the same as dumb or stupid, it just indicates a lack of knowledge without any attempt to explain why.

ignorance is a major problem in current american life - the quality of education continues to decline, especially in areas like science.

anti-intellectualism isn't limited to the conservatives - it's an ongoing part of american life.

I don't think most people who meet in their community or state and build coalitions for local or statewide election success are likely to be "dumb."  Having said that we all know great scout leaders, mayors, ministers, friends who for various reasons we might not feel very comfortable with as President.

Former Gov. Palin like all of us, made life choices, and decisions about what are the priorities of life. It is difficult to imagine a future president who has not taken at least some chunks of their past to master the basics of complex economic, social, environmental, and foreign policies issues. Slogans and sound bite answers go only so far.

What I think the media magnifies, and Palin reinforces by not saying "I really don't know, but I will find out and get back to you," is a lack of serious historical and political knowledge required today. Like them or not, few can condemn the life experiences, school, or even gradauate work which helped prepare Carter, both Bushes, Clinton and Pres. Obama.

Palin does not seem to be the best candidate in these times.
But our greatness is that we are free to disagree with each other.

Although I am not a big Sarah Palin fan, I don't believe that she is dumb at all.  I think that she has to be rather intelligent to make it to where she has made it in life.

"hat I don't understand is why someone on her campaign staff doesn't stand up and refudiate her remarks before she makes them?"

Quote from the first post on this, Stump Parrish, sums it up for me.

I'm not very concerned on party affiliation with politics and will vote for the person, not the party.

There's no way around it, she's stupid as hell.  I never thought that would actually appeal to anyone, but then again, if you put someone smart in a room of 100 idiots, they'll usually beat the crap out of the smart person simply for being smart.  I'm trying to think what % of our population would identify with this type of person and what type would not.  Then I think who outnumbers who.  Then I get scared.
