   Hydrogen peroxide is a pretty good universal stain remover as is borax.

   If you have black marks on a hard surface, you can spray some WD40 or some Liquid Wrench on it, and rub it with a dry cloth or a dry sponge, it will come right up.

   Vinegar eats away any stains, as long as y6ou don't mind the smell for a bit.

   well from all the  traffic on my carpet i use a wetvac, but before i spray troubled sports with either oxyclean or 409*i never used this until my brother came over and did my rugs for me he was liek *it says all purpose, and  it actually did a nice job on my rugs.

   White spirit is good for removing oil paints off washable fabrics only, followed by washing-up liquid which has to then be sponged off with warm water.  Similarly, white spirit is used for removing gloss paint off washable fabrics.  Again the washing-up liquid is useful for removing the remaining marks.  If it's for non washable fabrics, it's best to take it to the dry cleaners. 
   
   With emulsion paint, just undiluted washing-up liquid should be used on washable fabrics followed by cold water. 
   
   Another good stain remover is methylated spirits which is used for spongeing off newspaper 'ink' off fabrics.
