I suffer from this as a young heart patient. I don't really have an answer, though being with someone is good. I say talk to a love one, a friend, get up on your day off and do something that you wouldn't do...break your routine.
some things that can help - exercise, getting outdoors for at least a few minutes each day, making time to do something you really enjoy every day even if it's only for a little bit (read, paint, listen to music, etc). also it's really really important to get enough sleep. aim for 6-8 hours a night. also try to eat healthy, and maybe try keeping a journal filled with things that make you happy and that you are grateful for in your life. fill it w/ lists, pictures, quotes, lyrics, and when you're feeling depressed you can read it to remind yourself of the good things. some people do need medicine to combat depression though, so if you're really having a hard time and your doctor recommends it, may be worth a shot.
Hi there,
There are quite a lot of things to try rather than medication such as exercise, self-help books and even the food you eat can increase mood to a great degree. But it will depend on the cause of your depression. If it is something like SAD - seasonal depression apprently brought on by falling levels of sunlight - then there is equipment you can use. If the depression is due to a bereavement then keeping occupied and time often eases and lifts mood. If you have anxiety depression this can be eased by reducing the levels of stress in your life along with previously mentioned things to try. If the depression is mainly a chemical imbalance then some herbal remedies may work. But sometimes to kick start a good recovery medication can be the best.
I've heard exercise is good. Get those endorphins going. Also you may look into volunteering; gets your mind off it. Good luck!
Lavender does wonders for anxiety and depression. It's a natural remedy too. Exercise, meditation music and massages will help too.
Eating a diet that is rich in wholesome foods, with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables will help. Also, exercise will create endorphins and cause a person's mood to elevate. Uplifting music helps too. Also, the essential oil lavendar is beneficial.
The best way to naturally lift your mood is to live a healthy lifestyle - get plenty of sleep, exercise, and healthy food. Learning stress-management techniques can also be very helpful. For those who have mild depressive symptoms, there are also some natural herbs and supplements you can look into including St. John's Wort, Valerian Root, 5-HTP, and even Ginseng and Kava Kava.

Does anyone think there is anyway to solve depression, without medication??I am definitely in a slump, and really need to get out of it. But I need help. Anti-depressants are always there, just wanted to explore a little before I made that decision.

Do you believe the drug industry has invented disorders?Do you believe that many chemical imbalances and disorders are simply created for profit? Brainwashing us into thinking there's always something wrong with everyone, requiring pills?
