Nutritional supplements are good but alone do not have quite the same effect as eating the supplements through food.

Yes I do. I became very, very ill a few years ago because I wasn't eating well. I found I was deficient in both vitamins and minerals.
It was my own fault. I was very poor at the time and under a lot of stress and had even stopped taking supplements because of lack of money.
Our modern diet is killing us. Food is mostly devoid of anything but calories and salt. Few people eat enough fruits and vegetables because they are too expensive. Processed foods are full of sugar, salt, and additives and are very unhealthy food choices... but we have little choice unless we buy raw produce and learn how to cook it properly.
It is particularly important to take vitamin C and D
