   How much memory do I need on a new computer?
   
   It will be used for photo processing and storage, word processing,
   working on the internet, and eventually I would like to put Dragon Naturally Speaking and Corel Draw. I can't afford as much memory as I would like. (My tax refund is only so big!) What's the minimum I should consider?

   You don't need much, because it's not for gaming purposes.
   Anyway everything depends on your budget. For a decent money you can buy a Ram memory of 512 mb, I don't know the price in your country. But this one is good and cheap ;-)

   I would recommend 6GB of ram, 4 being an absolute minimum.
   
   You mentioned new pc which implies you will be using Windows 7 which has higher memory requirements.  Also photo processing is resource intensive.

   4 Used to be the standard, now days it is 6. However you can buy 8Gb for under $70 whereas 6Gb would cost $10 bucks less, might as well get the 8Gb and future proof your machine. I wrote a hub about this a little while back.

   I don't know what the requirements are for Corel Draw, but otherwise your requirements sound about the same as what I use my computer for, which has 4GB with Windows 7. That said, I'm sure that in the future I could run into some issues with it. I use NaturallySpeaking 10 Preferred on pretty much a daily basis, and don't know if 11, their newest version, needs more or not. Sounds like the 6 or 8 suggestions are about right, unless you're on a tight budget and expect to be able to upgrade later.

   I would recommend 8gb, because memory needs always increases, and you will find that more ram is always a good thing.

   4 GB is the new average; try to get at least 4 GB. Most new laptops and desktops come with 6, and some with 8 GB. But definitely get at least 4, no less.

   to increase the speed of the computer, do not have to buy memory (RAM). The solution is to do the changes in the settings windows. you can search algorithm in Google, how to make Windows work faster.
   
   What I know, Corel draw 11 or more, require RAM, 512mb minimum, in order to work with stable. if you are under 512mb of RAM, the solution, use the lower version of Corel (Corel Draw 10)
