Is voting an answer to a question down a form of internet bullying?
Sometimes when I am answering questions I see answers that were very good being voted down. Do you feel this is a way of putting down another writer or lowering a persons self esteem? (Sidenote: this is not meant to be taken personally - it is just a question)
Some of my answers have been voted down too, and after reviewing what I wrote I do not find them badly written, but they were voted down. I don't consider this "internet bullying", but that there are people who may not know how to appreciate what is good or bad, or that there will always be people with bad judgment. Probably that's the reason why I am still in hubpages, but I will not answer questions which I consider to be controversial. I have since ignored such votes to my answers.
I do see alot of that. I actually vote up every single answer i get soon after i recieve an email telling me this question has been answered. But sometimes i do recieve insulting answers that give me no choice than to vote it down. I am all for constructive Criticism , but not indirect insults. But as to deliberately vote down someone -the answer is no.
Great question barbergirl28
Voting down an answer, just because someone has a differing view than your own, yes that is internet bullying or trolling. You see this a lot with political & religious questions. Mainly because people can't stand to read opinions that differ from their own, lack of security I guess. Answers should be voted down if they fail to completely answer the question or do not make sense and not because you don't completely agree with them. Everyone's opinions are different on a whole host of issues.
Well, I'm kinda new to the voting thing on HubPages. To be honest, I never really paid attention to it, until I thought about my own Hubs!
When I thought about how I would want people to react to my Hubs, I realized that not all people who stop by wish to comment.
By having the "Vote" button (up/down) one can vote quickly. The downfall to this is that, as mentioned above, people can manipulate the actual voting pool, forcing an unfair balance in opinion.
I have read all the answers above and I have "Voted" them all UP! Good answers, Hubbers!
not at all. this site is suppose to be for adults though kids are on here to. voting is just a matter of opinion , which we all have. if you answer a question you should be ready for how your answer is percieved, whether good or bad.
I've wondered before if voting down usually has more to do with anger at the question or hub or just simply thinking its low in quality, nothing more.
I've had questions I asked on reddit get tons of down votes yet I still received a lot of answers (the questions were provocative)
I think we have a responsibility within the Hubpage community to police our own a little. I have voted down twice in the short time I have been on Hubpages. The first was a hub that I felt had information that was not only misleading, but could have been detrimental to others who may have accepted the advice of the Hubber as an expert. The second was the response to an answer dealing with seniors and dementia. I work with seniors, and I felt the advice given to the question would have provided a detrimental effect on the person in need of services.
So, no I don't think that a well intended vote down is bullying. I do think that we have to behave in a respectful, professional manner. In that vein, I don't vote unless I feel the vote is warranted, up or down.

What makes you vote up or down a question?I noticed in the questions I have asked questions and some good response have been voted down. So, curiousity struck me and makes me wonder how do you determine your rating of the answers. (The answers voted down haven't been negative or had swearing in...

How should trolls on HP be punished? We've all seen it, trolls voting down nearly every/every answer to a question when the answers clearly add to the discussion. Shouldn't there be a limit on how many answers to a single question a single hubber can vote down?

If its wrong then they should comment in reply otherwise the person will never learn. If its rude ok that's a good reason. Some people must have nothing better to do with their lives.

How would you format a list of questions and answers in a hub?I started out with two separate bulleted lists in two different text modules, the first list containing the questions, the second containing the answers. After a while, the lists got long and I decided I needed to keep each answer with...

Have you come across Internet bullying (cyberbullying), and how do you handle it?This could include Facebook, other similar sites, various forum groups, sports sites' comments, Amazon comments - mostly about book reviews. It can happen anywhere, unfortunately.

Do you vote down an answer because you disagree with it?I have been browsing the Q and Q a bit and have noticed that a lot of people who give very relevant responses are voted down. The conditions are "Please vote up an answer if it adds to the discussion, or vote it down if it does not. You...
