UN passed the no-fly zone over Libya
The UN passed the resolution for a NO-fly zone over Libya and now the US and Briton are making plans to bomb. Will this be the next big WAR??
I don't think so this time. The United States did not take the lead in this one and, instead, left it up to the Europeans and the UN. While they all negotiated on the no fly issue Qaddafi has consolidated his forces and the rebels have been pushed all the way back to Benghazi. With his armor and superior forces he could end this before a no-fly zone is established. I think now he could win this without his airforce. Had the west acted quicker perhaps this would already be over with Qaddafi ousted but instead he and his forces have used the past 30 days to go on the offensive. If the rebels stronghold in Benghazi falls I think this war is over.
Possibly... this is more similar to Kosovo, where we only moved in as part of a larger force, aimed at stopping a clear violation of human rights, than the situations in Iraq and Afghanistan... but let's not forget there's a lot of oil access up for grabs here. A stable Libya means lower gas prices for Europe and the US, and blowing the Kadafi family out of power is the swiftest and most certain way to achieve the desired end.
Of course the US doesn't have such a good track record with supporting guys who'll do our bidding in the middle east (see Iran, Iraq and Egypt), but that doesn't mean we might not try some forced regime change anyway.
I agree with Glen this stance was left to Europe and Britain to police there is talk of taking out heavy armour if used against civilians. With the backing of some Arab states this should be considered a human rights campaign.
If we do anything, we're going to send one aircraft carrier and maybe a destroyer in a form of deterrence rather than open aggression.
The situation will not end in a war so long as the people inhabiting the quarantine zone and those in flight near the "no-fly zone" respect the policy. Of course there will also need to be a time limit on the quarantine of the nation Libya to give the citizens time to correct their nation and culture, prior to employing a police force to dispossess the region of its rulers and install the appropriate personnel and codes into the country and its government.
As this has the potential to become a war, while we cannot afford war even when we are able to, if it does become a war it would end quickly through the proper performance of policies such as maintaining a quarantine zone with the appropriate perimeters of no trespassing and a cease fire zone, the removal of enemy elements nearby resources, the breaking of logistic chains, the precision of removal of leadership, disarment and evacuation zones for citizens to surrender their firearms and weapons prior to moving to safety zones, the temporal and strategic acquisition of the telecommunication channels, and barring detrimental conduct and the propagation of conduct detrimental to the progressive lifestyles of citizens leaving the war zone (ie the complete removal or restructuring of Sharia Law, and the installation of federal democratic values in the likeness of the Human Bill of Rights (Rites).
While it may seem that the US and Brittain are planning such a campaign, it is undoubtedly the every free nation via the United Nations of this world that desire to end conflict in Libya, as such conflicts are a stain on the progress of our history and moral decency. While there have been occurences in the past of errors too problematic to repeat regarding global police actions, if we are to ever unite as one global federation we must begin with policing ourselves at home, and keeping our side of the homeland clean and free of hazards that have the potential to harm our neighbors, guests and family.
I remind everyone reading that this is a finite planet with finite resources as all are undoubtedly aware, thus we cannot afford attrocities like those of Libya, and the remaining areas of the world that are out of touch with the present moment. Times will change and we will have our global federation so long as we continue to act here and now.

Do you support this action although it may result in U.S. involvement in a third war? Are the humanitarian considerations sufficient to justify this action?
