UK based Hubbers - Amazon UK affiliate ID does not work with HubPages

   I thought my UK affiliate ID was working fine with HP as long as I chose amazon.com based products - seems I was very wrong! You do not get credited with any sales. If you only have a UK affiliate code, you need to apply to amazon.com for another one, which I have just done.

   I believe that I have the same.  Is it possible to apply for an Amazon.com code though? Let me know how you get on please.  I only ask because I have several hubs which should earn me considerable numbers of sales.

   You can usually log into amazon.com with your uk amazon username and password as that's what I have done! you usually get the -20 instead of the -21 on your affiliate id's.

         That looks like the UK one, try and get some -20 ones too on Amazon.com

   Form everything I've read today, amazon.co.uk and amazon.com are seperate businesses and as such we need to also get a .com ID affiliate code/number. It would be the same for any hubbers who have signed up to their own country's amazon affiliate progam such as amazon.au or amazon.ca.
   
   I just went to amazon.com and signed up for their affiliate program. Should get a response in a few days.

      That's great. It wasn't that obvious to me that they were seperate businesses! I thought one amazon affiliate ID was all I needed.
      
      I posted this thread because I didn't realise that the UK affiliate ID I have does not work for HP since it looks like it's working fine in the affiliate settngs in My Account. I imagine there are probably lots of other UK hubbers who are in the same boat just thinking that they weren't getting any sales and not realising they also needed a amazon.com affiliate code.

         hi there, I have the affiliate ID with 21 at the end. Is that enough or shall I request the -20 as well. In that case I should just write them making the request with my current ID? Or there is a different process to follow?
         
         Another thing, when I try to see my earnings directly from hubpages that directs you to the amazon associate log-in, then I type in the username and password and It says it doesn't exists. Secondly, if I open affiliate site from the amazon home page then it does work...l emailed their support and they told me that they don't have a record of my current ID. So that means that it doesn't work.
         
         Help please.

   Still dont get it. A bit thick sometimes. Can someone please write a hub based on this. Ive got the 21, the wrong one it seems. And i'm UK based and i've wondered about non Amazon sales.

      if you go on your affiliate home page you will see the countries where amazon operates its business separately. It's on the top of your home page when you log-in and you can scroll them. If your is UK and you have -21 only, u need to change it to US and reapply with the whole process again as you did for the UK. You can also apply for germany, canada ect if your visitors might be coming  from there. If you do so for US for instance, the people that will click from US will generate you revenue. Now only the UK based are your clients. I applied for all and just today got approved:). And you can use your same user name and password for all of them. When you need to check you earnings just scroll the country and it will automatically go on that particular ID where you can view your reports of visitors, of that particular country.

         Thanks asalvani, very, very helpful, and quite clear. I will do just that now.
         But one more question, do i still go ahead and use the Amazon capsules as is usual?
         And do i need to record all the countries affiliate ID in my affiliate settings? There is only one line available for that.

            No there is no need to record them all, as with hubpages the one that will generate you more income is US because of the popularity in that area, so lets say 90 percent of the income can be generated from US and 10% from the rest of the world. So put only the US one there. When you apply for the other ones they ask you after registering your hubpages.com to add some description about why you want this affiliate program. There you can also add your hubages.com/profile and maybe some current hubs that they might review.
            Yes, use the capsules for the amazon that are already provided when you edit your hub. Just write a keyword and the desired book or cd will come out. then you have the option to leave the 4 items(icons to be displayed on your hub) or maybe choose just one that reflects your writing. click save and done editing.

         Asalvani - just to clarify. HubPages only works with AMAZON.COM. So the only benefit of signing up to other countries amazon affiliate programs is if you have your own websites that target business from those countries. NO OTHER countries' amazon will work with HubPages.
         
         I received my amazon.com affiliate approval yesterday and have replaced my uk affiliate number with that in my HP affiliate settings.

   Asalvani, thank you soooo much. You wont know how much you're help means to me. Just joined the US program and i've been given the affiliate ID. WOW! im joining your fan club (as long as im accepted)for this.
   I had lost faith in Amazon and was thinking of taking them off some of my hubs. Now i know better.

   I think this could be stated more explicitly in the Hubpages help area under the section "Making Money on HubPages".
   
   I know it says go to amazon.com, and even provides the link, but I think it's reasonable for the average person to assume amazon UK is the same business as amazon US and therefore join the affiliate program in their nearest locale, or indeed simply use an affiliate ID they already have for their nearest locale.
   
   It might save a bit of confusion if it specifically stated on the help page that hubpages will only work with Amazon US affiliates and no others.
   
   Only MIGHT. I'm sure there will still be people like me who don't pay attention.

    yeah it's quite tricky, they didn't even told me when l sent them an email asking the appropriate question about why l couldn't log-in with the British one and that was  because if you check your earnings from Hubpages it directs you to the US one where if you are not having the -20 ID is not logging you in.

    I wouldn't normally post links to my hubs in the forums, but on this occasion i think it's the right thing to do, just so that other hubbers don't make the same mistakes we did!
