I am a living being. At this time, I cannot see putting dead flesh into my body....

Initially it was just health reasons, but then I saw a documentary on a beef slaughter house that just did me in. I'm not opposed to consuming animals for food, but as long as the almighty dollar rules I don't believe we are able to guarantee humane treatment of the animals raised to be our dinner.

Maybe this isn't fair but I avoid meat just because I don't like it. It looks and smells disgusting while being cooked and just lays there looking dead.
Vegetables and fruits are colorful and look so alive and pretty - yes, I said that, I like the colors, textures, taste, all of it.
I'm not a fan of animals dead or alive, in my yard or on my plate. I just like to see them out running around in their native habitat.

I'm not a vegetarian, I'm a vegan, but I'll share with you anyway. My reasons are simple: 1. Health. 2. I didn't like the taste to begin with. 3. When I was a child, I had two bunnies as pets and a neighbor stole them to put them in his stew.

It is so cool to read the responses to this question. I have been a vegetarian since I was 7 years old. It started out with my Dad becoming a vegetarian for health reasons and me copying him, as children do. Well, it stuck. Now, I am nearly 25 years old, and meat still disgusts me. I agree that the thought of living flesh going into my living body does not appeal to me. Meat does not appeal to me either. The smell, taste (i have tried it a couple of times for the husband) or anything about it does not appeal. I guess if I had to mention one thing that strikes me as appealing, it would be the protein and fact that it is lean.

Meat contains lots of toxins. When we consume meat, we will be taking too much toxins which will be harmful to our bodies. Eating vegetables will be much healthier.

I was recently diagnosed with polycystic ovary disease, and the doctor told me she doesn't know the cause but that it's probably because of the hormones in the food.  sad  Animals all seem to be genetically altered these days.  Have you seen the differences in the girls these days?  Girls look like grown women at such early ages, and I think it's the hormones in the meat!  Have you heard about how chickens are being treated?  Chickens are being kept in tiny cages and held by their necks as they sit and just lay eggs.  Chicks seem to somehow become grown chickens in a matter of days.  Cows are supposed to eat grass but too often no longer do.  I just recently gave up most meats (pork, beef, turkey, chicken) a couple of months ago.  I eat meat occasionally and try to eat organic/hormone free meats when I do.  I am working on my egg and dairy intake now.  I try to eat/drink cagefree and organic eggs, rice cheese, and almond milk.  I need recipe ideas that meat eaters and recent vegetarians would appreciate!  Anyone?

Its more of a psychological thing.

To someone it might smell delicious. To me, it smell bad and makes me feel like throwing out.

And more than that, the thought of eating flesh ain't that great either.
