Question about skills a writer needs.
Which is a more important skill for a writer: being able to make people laugh or being able to make people cry?
I aspire to be able to do either for then I would know that I can write.
To be able to strike an emotional chord with a reader is the goal of all creative writers. It is that connection that engages readers and allows them to experience the emotions that the writer has so skilfully prepared for them.
In terms of difficulty? I would suggest that perhaps sorrow is more difficult as it requires an empathy between reader and author that is extremely difficult to achieve.
The most important thing as far as feelings go is the ability to get them to feel what you want them to regardless of the feeling.
I think what is important is to be able to make your reader feel what you are trying to convey, whether sadness, humor or whatever.
I believe that is more difficult with making people laugh because body language and expression are so much a part of humor but very difficult to convey without overwriting.
Humor is subjective; what I think is funny, someone else might not laugh at. For this reason, I believe humor is more difficult to write successfully. Also, I believe it is much harder to teach someone to write humor than it is to teach them to write drama. For example, if you put a lot of work into developing a likeable character, and then kill them, you're on your way to getting a sad reaction from the audience. But you can put the same amount of work into a joke and nobody finds it funny. That's not to say that getting a sad reaction from your audience is easy, but I do think it is a much different process.

Hi,I might sound silly for asking this question, but I could not really understand what CPM is (I read an article, but I'm not good with these things). I know it has to do with the impact that my articles have in terms of views. Although I don't know if "impressions" is the same thing as...

I know that there is a forum section dedicated to getting help with improving your hub... I was wondering if there's also a forum where it would be acceptable to post my own new blog to get some tips and feedback... is that allowed here?
